I found this quite interesting article:

https://www.washingt...id=ss_tw-bottom

As you may know, Eastern European countries (like mine) have a vast experience with the transition process from a totalitarian regime to democracy. Your current administration's policy about Cuba seems to be detrimental to the Cuban people. To me, it makes no sense. So here's my question: is there some kind of strategy behind all this, or are we talking about plain dumb short-term electoral opportunism?

That would be embarrassing, wouldn't it? To think that the biggest power of the planet can't put in place a coherent foreign policy or strategy due to internal random frictions within its own parliament...

The strategy is not giving a fuck and walking away to do something more important.

They're probably waiting for the Castros to die and a younger generation of leaders to take over.

But really what this is about is money. The big resort/entertainment companies are chomping at the bit to get back into Cuba. Remember, before Castro Havana was the jewel of the Caribbean, where the rich and famous went to gamble and party. A lot of people have dollar signs in their eyes. My guess is that these companies don't want the US gov't messing around in Cuba because they want to be the ones doing the messing around in order to ensure that it is to their benefit.

I have been wondering whether we might see a presidential visit to Cuba before the end of Obama's term. Lame duck presidents are always looking to burnish their legacies, and big, photogenic foreign policy initiatives are great for that.
