40 hour week?

When you do the 60 hour week, and then you don't have to work, you don't miss it. Trust me on this.

This is funny to me because I currently work over nights at a grocery store and I know exactly what you guys are talking about, I'm living it almost everyday. I don't like the shift personally, I like sleeping at night not working.

yeah, my goal is to get off it ASAP... I really just wanted the Medicaid, but they gave me the food stamps too..  sitting here going through coupons and coupon websites trying to stretch the money as far as possible..  they also gave me one time $22 in cash, i was like "why?". $230 a month for food is a LOT of money. gonna be so embarassed using this card at the store today. really want to cry.

Isn't it a swipe card like any other credit card ?  so who is to know, unless you buy something not acceptable like hookers and blow.

The card is pretty obvious what it's for, it's not like a credit card, unfortunately.

My total bill came out to like $5. All I had to pay for was soda, cat food and toilet paper. I'm really surprised that coffee is considered food, it shouldn't be.

I figure at least I can take solace in knowing I won't use all the money they give me. If you don't use it in 90 days, it goes away.

Caffeine is addictive, so they pay for it I guess. They probably figure that your odds of getting a job and getting off food stamps are higher if you can't sleep. B-)

Coffee is a cultural staple, which probably has a lot to do with why it's included.

Why do you find food stamps embarrassing? Everyone I know works and still gets food stamps because it really helps out. Gotta save money whenever you can, and food stamps help have a little bit of extra money left over.

I go for orientation today, yay..  money.

I don't have to wear a blue vest, just a blue or white shirt.

What?!? No blue vest?!? You got hosed. :P

Good luck on your first day. There's nothing quite like being on orientation at a new job — they still pay you, but you're not responsible for anything. Good times.

You've worked at a shitty job for so long that even Walmart's pretty basic compensation package looks good to you! Remember how surprised I was when I found out you didn't get sick days? Most big companies offer that stuff, and some a lot more. I hear Home Depot and Costco are particularly good companies to work for.

I definitely hear you about having a regular job. There are plenty of times when I think how nice it would be to clock in, go do your thing for two hours, take a break, go back to doing your thing for two more hours, go to lunch, then come back and repeat the whole thing, all with a minimum of interaction with other people. When you get into the zone in that kind of job you can just sort of live inside your head and function on autopilot. I miss being able to do that.

Ech, no thanks. That's so monotonous and tedious. Give me some interesting problems to think about so the time flies.

I can never turn my brain off. I am always thinking. If I'm on autopilot for too long, I get bored.

However if I have to use my brain on something hard, like cracking someone's undocumented API and wiring it in to my own system, now I don't get bored.

And it's fun.

Yeah, see, I'm generally not interested in using my brain to solve problems unless it's a subject that appeals to me. And since most stuff you'd do at work does not appeal to me, I'd just as soon be doing something that lets me be inside my head where there are superheroes and dragons. :)
