Depends on how serious it is. I would never abandon her if we had something special but I wouldn't hang around if we had two dates.

Im pretty sure if my girlfriend now were terminally ill, I would stick with her.

Now I wouldn't go actively seek these people so I wouldn't get attached to someone and lose them but I wouldn't give them up.

 

I don't see a reason why, especially when they need support then the most.

It would depend on how far along the relationship was when they got the news.  If you had only had a few dates, odds are the person would not be interested in pursuing a new relationship.  At times like that you tend to circle the wagons, emotionally.  But if it was a more serious relationship, then it seems to me like you'd be a major asshole if you didn't stay.

Actually, if I was with some girl, we'd gone out a couple times, had a few laughs, and then she's all like "I have six weeks to live! What do I do?" I would be all like "Oh let's make it your best six weeks."

 

However I'm a hopeless romantic.

That would definitely be romantic.  But more realistically she'd say, "I have six weeks to live—I want to spend it with my family and loved ones, not some guy I just met."

I've been dating my girlfriend for almost 3 years now, we shared our first kisses, we took each other's virginity, we've been together through the deaths of loved ones for each of us (my mom, her uncle). But most of all, we are genuinely in love. I enjoy every minute we have together. I also plan to marry her when I get out of school and get a job that pays enough for a wedding. If we found out she had cancer or something and had a few months to live, I'd try my dammedest to make them the best months of her life. Though, I'd try to prepare myself emotionally for when she does kick the bucket and try to get back out there.

 

But, I suppose if it were someone I wasn't as emotionally invested in, someone I'd only had a couple of dates with, I'd probably be like, "Sorry, gtg."

well, I don't want to live the rest of my life alone. I'm only 21 years old, unless I have a bad car accident or someone robs and kills me today, I have a long life to live. yes, I love my girlfriend. But if she died, I'd find someone else. After her death, of course. Would I love them as much? idk. 

 

My dad has started talking to someone about dating them too. He's talked to us about him dating and perhaps marrying again one day. The only thing that will bother me with it is if she tries to replace my mom. Cause it's just not gonna happen. But the woman he's talking to was very good friends with my mom and she felt what we felt when my mom passed away. They had been friends longer than my parents knew each other. And now my dad is talking about dating her. Yea, kinda weird but ok. I told him I want him to be happy and as long as she doesn't try to replace my mom, which I don't think this woman will try to do, I'll be ok with it.

I know.

I always find it interesting to probe people's intrinsic knowledge of death vs the dogma they are taught. Mostly because when I was an adorable little catholic, I stuck by the idea that if a person I cared about died, then I would never date again because I'd be waiting to see them again. I mean they still existed, however intangibly, right?

It's interesting to see where people intrinsically know that it's an end rather than believe its a beginning. Food for thought for everyone, although I think Jorost has probably been here.
