Well, I thought I could start with something like:

 

Jorost ruined all my fun, why can't I just be a horrible person with impunity these days? Gah, political correctness, why?

 

But then I thought, nah, you know what would be better? What would be even more interesting to see the outcome of? Something like this:

 

Being a good forum friend is simple, in fact, it can be the single most simple thing ever. To be a good forum friend, one must first stop trying to be a friend. This is life, and life is war. War against everyone, and everything, it's a bizarre, almost comical battle, that is simultaneously taken as a joke and with deadly seriousness. Everyone is constantly battling for their place on the social totem pole, just like normal. There is one crucial difference however; here on the internet, you are not you, you are net you. Net you can be the worst, and best, of all parts of you, mashed together in one twisted, "perfect" form. Net you can be far more evil, far more cunning, far less empathic and caring than your real self. This should almost certainly be to your advantage. Just remember the one, crucial rule of being a good forum friend, never be seen acting against anyone. To be seen is to be outed as a threat. Everyone is constantly trying to keep their machinations to the shadows, so hitting out against the one making the scene makes others look away from you. So, make sure that your enemies don't see your punches coming, and make sure anyone else does not see it either.

 

Oh, also, don't be Manoka. He's not a good forum anything.

 

 

There, how's that for a little mini-essay, hm? Strike a chord with anyone in particular?

I was expecting more about holding hands and singing songs.  Just a little more snark than I was looking for.  Still, it's nice to see someone doing the homework.

 

 

Interesting drift topic, though:  How "you" is your online personality?  I don't think mine is too different from my RL personality, although I suppose the people who've met me might be better judges of that.  I don't feel like I act any differently, but maybe I do and just don't notice.

If she could really oppose mah arguments she would instead of resorting to ad hominems or trying to attack me in some arbitrary way which,which  really accomplishes nothing, and fails to assess or even address my arguments. 

 

 

I find such actions and silly bantering shallow and pedantic, and completely missing the point. 

 

I do not act such ways on the net.

I don't think net me and real me are terribly different. Much more outspoken, for sure, but not all that different in what is being said or why. I'd say that my "evil" and "cunning" form is reserved for games, usually longer board and/or card games with lots of potential player interaction, where it can be put to use without issue. On a related note, I can't stand people who take games too personally. Most games are won by making sure no one else does. In order for one to win, everyone else must lose. They are meant to be brutal, underhanded, sneaky contests of guile and people who get offended because their friend or significant other took necessary steps to further their own goal of victory ruin that.

Yeah, I guess now that I think about it more, it would be fair to say that "Jorost" is a character, of sorts, that I am playing online.  It happens to be a character not all too different from the RL me, in the way that Jerry Seinfeld's TV character was not all that different from the real-life Jerry Seinfeld, but still it's a character.  Real-life me makes a lot more compromises than Jorost.  And Jorost is a LOT more successful.  Heh.
