Circumcision used to be performed as a matter of course in the United States, without even asking the parents. It was believed to be more hygienic and less prone to disease (neither is true). In the 1970s and '80s nearly every male was circumcised. But now it's far less, around 50%. Currently around 30% of males are circumcised worldwide.

 

Also, it's circumcise, with an s. And men don't have it done, infants do. :P
