Chapter 1 of the Higurashi VN has gotten a rerelease on Steam as well as on MangaGamer's website. If you're a fan of the Higurashi series (well then you might already know about it, but still) or if you just like psychological horror anime that execute pacing and character/atmosphere development flawlessly, it's well worth it.

 

I'm not (just) saying this because I'm an addict. I'm not (just) saying this because Funimation (a thousand curses upon them) dropped the anime license after finishing the first season and a part of me desperately clings to the hope of getting boxed sets of the rest for my collection if the VNs wind up being profitable enough. It's Higurashi. Higurashi is fantastic (also I waited until after I finished the VN myself, which took a while due to work and stuff, because I'll be damned if I recommend something before I've experienced it myself even if it's part of something I love), the VN is fantastic. It's so fucking awesome people, I'm serious.

I only like, like, normal animu's, like Ghost in the Shell, or Cowboy bebop. None of this, little girl and tentacles/murder stuff. 

 

Although, this one looks okay.

I have not heard of this anime. However if a second season of Haibane Renmei was ever made, I would die of pure joy. So I think I get where you're coming from.

Right? It's always disappointing when things that are great and unique get dropped. If you're into psychological horror/mystery type stuff, I highly recommend it.

It has little girls (two, to be precise), but no tentacles. The supernatural elements are much more mysterious than that, to the point that you might still be questioning whether or not they're real a few story arcs in.

Same (except the proper pluralization is "anime" not "animes" even though I suspect you did that on purpose :v). I think it's paced very well and I like the effort it puts into developing the characters and building atmosphere so there's actually an impact when shit goes bananas (b-a-n-a-n-a-s). A friend of mine complained about the lighthearted slice-of-life parts, but I think without them the series wouldn't leave anywhere near as strong of an impression.

A kinetic VN refers to a VN where there are no choices to make and you simply progress through the single storyline, as opposed to a VN like Katawa Shojo which have choices every so often that branch the story out into different paths.

...wait, so, it's like watching an anime but with minimal animation and possibly no voice acting?

Which I suppose could be good if the writing were good. The small amount of VNs I've seen didn't catch my interest though... but maybe playing through them would be different, since I could go through the text at my own pace, more like a book.
