[Thrash]

So, one of my cats today just dropped dead. It was by far the healthiest and most active of my cats. All of a sudden it just flopped on the floor and was spazzing for a few mins and completely unresponsive and then just died. Vet said it was probably a stroke.

He was about 10 years old, born on my bathroom floor in my apartment in New Jersey many years ago. I'm still waiting for the others to realize he's gone.

I'm a mess.

I saw this on Facebook and responded in a way that I realized afterward could have been taken as insensitive. I didn't mean it that way. I'm sorry for your loss, man.

It's tough to lose a pet. I've had to put a couple of dogs down over the years, and it's been heartbreaking. The worst was Uschi, my dog growing up. This is her with me when I was about 7:



God I loved that dog. I got her when I was a toddler, so she was there for my whole life. When I was 14 we had to have her put to sleep -- her poor old body was giving out on her. I didn't get to be there when it happened, and I can't remember whether they offered or I asked or if it never came up. Looking back now I wish I'd been there with her when she went, so she wouldn't have to die alone in some sterile room surrounded by strangers. I spent my whole life taking her for granted, and then when it was time for her to go I couldn't even be there for her that one time. I miss her every day.

People think losing a pet is no big deal. They're wrong.

My Dog passed away a little while ago, and god it must suck if it was at random, my dog was old but it really sucked.

Sad to hear man.

I've never really had any pets that I was emotionally attached to, less not, had a pet at all. However loosing a loved one, I have felt that pain.

I feel for you. I've been through my cats dying several times now and I still never get over it. Not really.

His sister is devastated. She just keeps sitting at the top of the stairs waiting for him. I think she knows though, cause has been sleeping in the hammock he always slept in and she never went there before. She has no one to play with now cause the other ones are lazy. I feel really bad.

For it to just happen out of nowhere was crazy, but at least I got to be with him right until the end. It's better then living a live of suffering and then having to go to the vet all the time. I'm glad he went the way he did. Seeing it happen was scary. I knew immediately there was nothing we could do, but we tried anyway. My wife did CPR.

10 years old is way too early though.

I am sorry to hear this, I have two cats myself and would be very upset as well. Having cats throughout my life, they all seem to attach themselves differently to you. On a somewhat related note, I lost a catfish today. Just got it though so not much connection, just disappointment and frustration.

Did you buy said catfish or did you lose one trying to reel it in. In my opinion the latter is much worse because it sucks to lose a catfish when you think you have it hooked.

That is too young. My Nan had 3 cats that did the same thing- and they were only 5. She had an autopsy done on Tigger, Smokey and Loverbug and they all died of heart attack.

Sorry for your loss. Cats, to some people, can be the equivalent of a child to them.
