When I was a teenager my mom had an assortment of rundown old cars. The one I had the most affection for was the deranged old Volvo.

I did once have a beginner's license but due to various weird physical ailments and emotional events never got a proper license.

What do you use for ID? Does Canada have a national identity card? Americans, as you know, do not, mostly because conservatives have a knee-jerk reaction against the very notion (ironic, since it would help them weed out the illegal immigrants they so despise). Most of us use our driver's license as our primary ID.

We have provincial identity cards. I used to use a passport, but don't carry one anymore.

Canada requires identification far far less than the U.S. does in general though.

It's more like a car for people who don't really care about cars. I've had mine for about 7 years now with very few problems.

Ah, I see. You'd probably be just as happy or happier with a Honda or Toyota. They are generally the most reliable vehicles built, and their build quality and (especially in the Honda) driving dynamics would be superior.

I found it in the depths of tumblr and felt it would be somehow appropriate here. As for cars, I'm going to run this saturn into the ground and then go for a Volkswagen or something similar.

Volkswagens are great driver's cars and handsomely styled, but their reliability is abysmal and they are expensive to fix. If you want ironclad dependability you really need something Asian. Honda, Toyota, Subaru, and Hyundai are particularly good.

Well, Volvos are well known for their longevity, but they are expensive. I do like the new S60, though. It's a great looking car.

Haha. Yes, well they do have a reputation of being solidly built. Having grown up with them I can certainly attest to that. But I doubt they're any more "bulletproof" than any other similarly massive vehicle, like a Mercedes-Benz, BMW, etc. Cars from Germanic nations tend to have that sense of heft, and correspondingly great records for safety as a result. There's nothing quite like the reassuring thunk of a Mercedes door closing.
