Well, even marriage vows are "till death do we part." When one dies, the other is released from their vows.

I would suppose that does provide a handy legal loophole mentally.

Although I honestly just didn't want to hurt someone who had just died.

One question, why would you "head back out there"?

He meant after she died.

I know.

I always find it interesting to probe people's intrinsic knowledge of death vs the dogma they are taught. Mostly because when I was an adorable little catholic, I stuck by the idea that if a person I cared about died, then I would never date again because I'd be waiting to see them again. I mean they still existed, however intangibly, right?

It's interesting to see where people intrinsically know that it's an end rather than believe its a beginning. Food for thought for everyone, although I think Jorost has probably been here.

I don't think that follows at all.  Even if you believe your loved one is "waiting" for you in "Heaven," that still doesn't mean you want to spend the rest of your mortal life alone.  Of course, I don't know what remarried widows/widowers are expecting when they get to the afterlife—maybe some kind of celestial open marriage?  Heh.

My pastor pointed to an article that I'm not so sure about but it says that when you die, you lose all memory of your life. Therefore you wont remember your loved ones. I don't think that's true but it's an idea.

Oh well there are no shortage of ideas.  We are all imaginative people.  I'm more interested in what unimaginative people think is going to happen.  Does the remarried widower think he's going to spend eternity with BOTH wives?  How would THAT work?

Idk. maybe that's something I could ask my dad if he ever remarries. perhaps you may have more than one earthly spouse but you only get one "soul mate" You know what I mean? I mean, my dad choose my mom over this woman before and now that my mom died, he's choosing to try things out with this woman.

It is an interesting philosophical quandary though isn't it?

As long as there were beautiful sofas, it would probably work out okay.

The best part about Islam is the graphic depictions of heaven in the Koran. Especially the sofas. The Prophet goes on and on about sofas.

If he'd been born a thousand and a bit years later, Mohammed could have been a Chesterfield salesman.

"Sofa" means something a little different to them.  They're more like big, fancy cushions that a sheik might have scattered about his tent.  And that's really what it's all about: in Middle Eastern cultures these things were a sign of wealth and opulence, so it stands to reason there would be a lot of them in paradise.

heh, in Victorian England sofas were a sign of wealth and opulence too. Some things aren't different between cultures. B)

Here they are a sign of being in the living room.  Or, if the sofa is old with an ugly floral pattern, it's a sign of being on my grandmother's front porch.
