So they're going to kill off another doctor soon. We all know it's coming since the spring, but just as I was getting use to not seeing David Tennant they kill the next doctor. 

 

So any thoughts on if the 12th doctor will be any good? And what will they do in 5 years once this actor is too old for them and the time lord has run dry of his regenerations? 

 

(Yes I watched the End of Time today again)

Honestly I don't think this guy will be as good. David Tennant for me was the best, then Matt Smith.

Plus on the note of the Doctor running out of regenerations, I'll think they might find some way to give him more. Otherwise the show will die.

To be honest I liked the side characters more than matt smith so I'm not too concerned at the moment.

He still has one more regeneration after this.  This will be #11.  12th Doctor, 11th regeneration.

 

I loathed Matt Smith, so I am very glad to see him go.  As for what they will do when the Doctor runs out of regenerations — I wouldn't worry about it.  The show's own continuity has already established that the Time Lords can bestow a new slate of regenerations upon someone if they so choose.  So there are plenty of options.  I have always suspected that they are going to say that since the Doctor is the last Time Lord left in this reality, he has effectively "inherited" the regenerations of his entire race, meaning that he has, effectively, an infinite number of regenerations.  Or they could simply "refill" his twelve and start over.

 

I have always thought a cool way to end the series, when that day eventually comes, would be to have the Doctor regenerate into a younger version of his first incarnation, revealing that his entire life is an infinite loop.

Obviously it's just nanobots repairing them. So they can be reprogrammed.

Yeah regeneration into young doctor would be cool, as to go deeper into the Dark Ages or early Last Great Time war, but they'd run a risk of running out of a story line there because as the doctor should age and or regenerate they'd run into the 1960s series. 

 

 

Also any guesses on what's the great awful thing that the 12th Doctor will do, that "has to be done, but can not be done in the name of the doctor" ? I mean he has already killed off entire races, including his own (twice).

Well, somewhere "between his twelfth and thirteenth" incarnation he is destined to become the Valeyard, as depicted in The Trial of a Time Lord.

 

But again, let's be clear:  Twelve regenerations, thirteen incarnations.  This is because the first incarnation was (at least theoretically) born.  Therefore the first regeneration (into the Patrick Troughton Doctor) was the second incarnation.  And so on.

 

At any rate, it's a science fiction program.  There are literally an endless number of ways they can have it go on after the character runs out of his canonical regenerations.
