I saw a commercial for ITT Tech in which a graduate said that success to him meant "being able to provide for your family," and it got me thinking.  What does "success" mean to you?  For me it would mean having the freedom to live comfortably, travel, and do what I want to do every day without having to worry about money.

My wife not working and staying home, having and being able to afford kids, a job that I love. You know like the 50's.

You mean like the myth of the '50s.  The truth was far less rosy.

What job would you love?  Like, if you could have any job, what would it be?

Believe it or not, I would like to be a customer service rep for an insurance agency. Insurance has always interested me and I have a good background already in it from when I was younger.

Or a delivery driver. You're on your own all day. You have repetition all day (seeing all different kinds of people).

Or a Vet Tech, because I love animals, but I'm allergic to dogs.

Oh, also, anything on an Assembly Line. That was one of my favorite jobs.

Of course being in porn wouldn't be bad either, lol.

Men in porn generally have to start in gay porn.  At least, I've heard...  <_<

I can probably help you get that customer service rep job at an insurance agency if you're willing to move to Massachusetts.  I have some connections at Electric Insurance:)

I'm 18 years old and I will be making around $35,000 a year. That, to me, is success.

True success to me, would be to be in top physical condition, and living life the way you want to.

Being president.

Anything less and you're a loser.

That or commanding large groups of people.

You must have dominion, of some kind, over sentient living things.

To me, success is a mythical beast that roams the countryside with unicorns, the jabberwalky, and Atticus Finch.

That's some deep shit man. Although I wouldn't say the idea of success is all fairy-tale.

It's just so damn hard to get to because you got people running over other people to get their own personal success. No one wants to work for the good of the whole anymore. :(

I often fantasize of making it big so that I could take care of my entire family (cousins, grandparents, aunts, etc) so that I will basically be the head of my entire family. That really appeals to me. Plus hanging out with celebrities and models in high end clubs sounds like a blast. My dream job would be a successful musician.

I don't think success is a fantasy, KB.  There are plenty of people who consider themselves successful.  I know several.  It's just that it's all subjective.  You can be a success and still want more.  I guess a better way to say it would be, what would it take to make you happy?

It's all in how you ask it really.

I, personally, see success as a pipedream.

I lack the drive for any such thing.

Mediocrity is for me.

I think success is irrelevant, and the concentration on it being so important is what leads to much disappointment in our society. I advocate an existence where you are content with what you are doing now, not how you have done or could have done.

You misunderstand.  I asked what does success mean to you, not what does it mean in popular culture.  If you are content with what you are doing now, then that is success for you.
