More than twenty, in fact.  Because tomorrow, May 23, marks twenty years since TNG went off the air.  I well remember watching that final episode, "All Good Things."  It's not their greatest episode, but it was a fitting sendoff to the crew of what I think of as "my" Star Trek.

Picard has it all over Kirk. He's poised and measured. And doesn't wear a cheap rug. Rather, he accepts even baldness with a quiet cool that says, "I am in command. You are safe with me. I will cradle you in my arms through any crisis in any galaxy." –Stewart Gilligan Griffin

Watch "All Good Things" here.

I still believe TNG does not finish until Nemesis.

I wish I could completely eradicate the stench of Nemesis from my memory, instead of just containing it in The Box.

The TNG movies were sorta weird. Most of them were good movies, with the exception of Nemesis, but they weren't really like TNG except for Insurrection, which was just silly, although good. It wasn't just that they had bigger budgets, the stories on TNG were structured differently from the movies.

Insurrection was basically a two-part episode of the show that they put on the big screen.  Oh, and made up a new enemy race that was the equal of the Federation and yet for some reason we have never heard of.  Most of the other TNG movies were just okay.  Nemesis was godawful.

I think the reason was that the Cardassian/Dominion war had just ended, and they'd been left in possession of a lot of subspace (see, illegally powerful) weapons that the Dominion had hanging around. Starfleet didn't want to piss them off.

TNG was always adding new Powerful Alien Races. I mean, DS9 could have had the Romulans, but no, TNG had to invent the Cardies first.

Which I guess was OK in the end, the Cardies were pretty interesting. But why does Star Trek hate the Romulans? The fans don't. You get consistently high ratings and interest for Romulan shows. But no, the Romulans get written out of Enterprise, which is actually set in their time period, and we get given the Klingons instead who are established as coming along later.

I have a similar view, but I'd probably rate Klingons after Romulans. :P

You might even say that resistance is futile.

Romulans were on Enterprise.

I like the Romulans too, but I think part of the attraction is that you don't get to see them very often.  Frankly I think the Klingons were overused.  The Cardassians were nice because they were never intended to be a Big, Powerful enemy; they were just a throwaway race for one episode ("The Wounded").  It was only later that they expanded them, and I think the direction they went was pretty good, sufficiently different from the other major races to set them apart.  (Unlike the Kazon from VGR, who were just Klingon retreads.)

If it had been up to me, the Ferengi never would have existed and the Romulans would have been the primary adversaries.  But they were too much like the Vulcans, from whom the producers of TNG consciously distanced themselves.

Unlike many hardcore Trekkies, I like what NuTrek did with the Vulcans, destroying their homeworld and reducing them to a handful of survivors.  It makes them much more interesting.

Yeah, it makes Romulus a lot more powerful, when it shows up.

Enterprise was set in the time-period of the Federation-Romulan War, which went on for decades. Honestly, they should have been the main enemy race of the show.

The Cardassians were fantastic because in the end they became the traditional cowardly villains they were meant to be in DS9. The Gul Dukat character was by the far the most in depth and well rounded villain outside of maybe Khan.
