But all that power. You can't put a price on that.

All that power, signing or vetoing bills you didn't write and have little influence in the content of. I'll put a price of £2 5/- on it.

Two pounds what?

Metric is for the Borg.

I was literally about to write "ALL BOW BEFORE THE METRIC SYSTEM".

The metric system is for people who like things to make sense.

What's wrong with the old system?

1 guinea is £1 1s.
£1 is 20 shillings
5s. is 1 crown
2s. 6d is ½ crown
2s. is a florin
1s. is 12 pennies
1d. is 2 halfpennies or 4 farthings

My only problem with the metric system is that, having been raised on the older, imperial-style measurements, I have a difficult time envisioning metric measurements in the real world. If you say a car is going 100 mph, I have a sense of how fast that is. But if you tell me it's going 100 kph I would have to do the conversion.

Dutch highways mark every kilometer with a pole next to it.

US highways do the same thing with mile markers. But that still wouldn't help me envision 100 kph any better. Or, if you tell me something is 3 meters long, I would estimate it to about 10 feet in order to envision the size.

I'm in Jorost's camp in spite of having learned Metric in school. Because Imperial/"Canadian Units" are so widely used outside of the education system, despite Metrication, it just seems far more natural for me to use them. I can see the application of Metric in some cases, like in scientific scenarios*, but for daily use, Imperial just makes more sense.

*Except for Celsius. Celsius is fucking useless. Use Kelvin or Fahrenheit or GTFO.

Hang on, that second part should. 100 kilometers per hour is about 300 thousand feet per hour, oooor dividing by 3600, 83 feet per second.

I try to deconstruct everything into thing per second, because I can't properly imagine a mile, or a kilometer, let alone hundreds of them. This sort of breaks down when I talk about orbital velocities, things like tens of kilometers per second. Cause... like

That's crazy talk.

Have I tried to sell you guys on my idea to change the foot/gallon to fit metric?

1 Gallon should be 4 liters, and 1 inch be 2.5 cm exactly. It's off by ~6 and 3% respectively. But idk. We should do it! To hell with over-complicating things.

I'll admit it's boring.

And this is what makes it boring.

That said, your idea for a Metric Inch isn't new: the Soviets used it in computer manufacturing, and the idea of a 'Metric Foot' of 30cm is likewise commonly used here to produce dual 12"/30cm rulers.

Hold your horses, it would help if the US actually used the imperial gallon as the US gallon is just over 3¾ litres whereas the imperial gallon is just over 4½ litres. :P
