‘Don’t spy on me!’ How to opt out of Windows 10’s intrusive defaults

- Disable sharing your internet connection over Wi-Fi, it’s a bit too generous an invitation for everybody out there (Path: Start Menu / Change Wi-Fi settings / Manage Wi-Fi settings / turn off all the boxes you want to keep for yourself).

- Windows 10 syncs your machine with Microsoft servers by default, so things like web browser history, Wi-Fi network names with passwords, mobile hotspot, apps you install and favorites you choose are potentially being stored on their servers forever. This data “sharing” should be deactivated - in Settings.

No honestly, Microsoft is at least open with what they're going to be looking at. You have no privacy these days anyway, trying to opt out is a fools gambit. Someone else already has that information.

So far, so good. lol  I still use the desktop, no start screen. lol

Oh, I dont like the search thingy on the task bar. Im gonna find how to get rid of that.

I have it downloaded lol
Waiting for someone (me) to back up everything so I can install.

I didn't back up anything on my PC while on windows 8 and then upgraded to windows 10.... Panicked and once upgraded everything saved and installed was still there

I backed up almost everything. Over 52 gigs on thumb drives lol

Yep. Windows generally has these three options.

1. Keep files and programs.
2. Just keep files.
3. Clean install, so no files or programs.

Honestly this. I don't see why people bother. If you really could hide all that info from anyone, you'd most likely be getting a job offer from the NSA. And then you wouldn't have anything to worry about. As it is, we're all fucked. They know everything about us and there's nothing we can dooo.

Hell, if the government is going to track everything over the wires anyway, I guess it doesn't affect my everyday life (yet), and I can't stop it, so I can live with that. But everything else, where them having your shit is just accepted and out in the open. That makes my blood boil.

Yep. Windows generally has these three options.

• Clean install, so no files or programs.

Sure, but I was given none of those options on upgrade so was touching cloth on whether I'd lose work or applications, considering I didn't back up

There is also a lovely confusion that people think everything will be done where there is ask permission for. But that it's more a Facebook thing where you lose all of the rights on pictures you upload because it's legally easier to make broad staments than listing every week what you want


And people just overestimate how interesting they are.

Oh I know I'm not interesting at all. But I hate that I have to acknowledge, and see and live this way. If they just *did it*. Black helicopters. Companies stealing your picture of Mickey Mouse to sell backpacks. Whatever. Doesn't really affect me. I'm a nobody. But it's so in my face. I can't stand it.

I can't wait to upgrade to it when I buy a new system in the next few weeks. I am just concerned about software compatibility for full disk encryption and two factor authentication
