I've never much liked WYSIWYG editors in websites. Wikia introduced a visual editor on their wikis a while back, and it produced terribly ugly monstrosities. I've not used it in a long time, but I have seen enough complaints about it I'm not sure it's much better than it was in the beginning. When these forums upgraded to have one, I fought against it so hard. I know BBCode. I know how to format BBCode to get the visual effect that I want. Why should I trust the website to accurately reproduce what I want? Generally that's a horrible idea. I didn't want IPB messing my posts up like Wikia did my articles.

Of course, things went pretty far downhill here. I thought I knew how to format BBCode to get the visual effects I wanted, and I did, before the upgrade. Then it became a bit of a crapshoot, editing and re-editing and copying and pasting code to prevent weird line breaks from being inserted (or not inserted) at random points in my posts. I'd hit the 'Preview' button and the code in the editor on the next page would be totally different from the code I'd put in, so I got in the habit of copying the entire contents of my post before previewing it so that the preview would remain accurate when I actually posted it.

It's been a nightmare.

Today, out of curiosity, I enabled the visual editor. It's actually pretty dope. What I see is actually what I get, to a much more substantial degree than the manual code editor.

So yeah. +1 IPB, for the first time ever.

I press the buttons and they make the lights on the screen show me what I want to see.
