I don't know how many Invictans actually have a dog in this fight. For myself, if I got a vote (which I do not) I'd be torn. On the one hand I believe nations have a right to independence. On the other, I really, really like the Union Jack and don't want to see it change. Among some of the many designs floating around is this, replacing Scotland's colors with those of Wales (which is unrepresented on the current design):

Alternative-designs-proposed-for-the-uni

Can I just be the first to say "blech?" That looks awful.

Sorry, Scots. My vote goes to aesthetic color balance. Besides, you'd never make it on your own. :P

I think the current Union Jack is ugly anyway. B-)

In general I'm in favour of smaller governments, so I tend to be in favour of these types of constitutional separations. However I don't really know much about the Scottish situation to be honest, except that the polls seem to be pointing towards a too-close-to-call vote.

I heart Canada's flag. Seriously. Love the maple leaf, it's a simple symbol, clearly recognizable, and you can wear it on your butt. B-)

Personally I dont believe scotland should split from the UK, it just doesn't make any sense to me. Besides it would make both countries weaker in alot of ways, and theoretically lets says scotland becomes its own country but doesnt become a part of NATO or EU, someone could invade them and the UK would have a bad new neighbour just above their country, can't say that would be any good for them. UK has survived so long by being a hard island to take, its like leaving one side of your island up for grabs.

Just who is going to invade Scotland? For that matter, who is going to decide to invade any Western European country unchallenged? What century do you think we're living in?

I say they should go for it and be independent. Smaller, more localized governments FTW.

I would go for independence - but at the same time - I don't know the reasons for seeking independence or any details of not being dependent.

In all honesty though we the UK is more or less England no matter how you slice it. Ireland is doing pretty well these days (fuck you Northern Ireland) so I think it would be good for Scotland. Just because Scotland won't be a part of the UK doesn't mean it will stop trading, just means that it will end the exploitation of itself by the UK. Personally I think they should do away with the UK cause no one really wants to be in it cause it is like being England's bitch (poor Wales never gonna get independence).

Russia for instance? Scotlands army will never be able to match that of the UK, could be a nice way to enter the island.

But to me the UK is a strange place, Wales, Scotland, England. I would think that all of these areas would just be happy being a part of Great Britain, being under just one nation. I dont know though, I've never been there, never talked to the people. It would make sense though if Northern Ireland became a part of Ireland again though. The British mistreated the Irish for many years, theres no doubt about that.

Yeah invasion scenarios are not an issue. England hasn't been successfully invaded since 1066; a good deal of the time since then, Scotland was independent in whole or in part.

Invasion scenarios are fun xD  But anyhow what about the economy? Well I suppose on the one hand if the UK had a crash then they would be much better off on their own but then if Scotland had a crash then they would be stuck on their own, just like any country I suppose but I assume the UK would have a much larger economy then Scotland would. I would want to check the numbers on that. Hey here's a fun scenario, Scotland gets so large and powerful they take over Great Britain and Scotland owns the whole island lol or just say EVERYONE in the UK for absolutely no reason just randomly decided they would rather be a part of Scotland. Well, almost as strange a scenario as Russia owning all of Europe, which I heard was their secret plan back in WW2.

We'll know in less than 24 hours. As a scion of Plantagenets, my instinct is to keep Scotland under the English thumb. My 36th great-grandfather Edward Longshanks would be proud. :)

Well, so,etching tells me that this will not be the last time in our lifetimes that we will see this referendum. The "Aye" campaign was too disparate, with not a focused plan for what would happen after the election if independence was voted for.

It may be another 20 years, but my guess would be that the next time, see a more focused independence movement, with a real platform of how an independent Scotland will look and function.

Noch Alba!
