How the hell do they have a parade that shuts down city streets? I've never even met a West Indian person in my entire life. Where the fuck is West India anyway?

I think by "West Indian" they mean people from the islands bordering the Caribbean, i.e. the West Indies. But any parade that shuts down streets is annoying.

Who even likes parades? I think there's this idea that kids like them, but if I see kids at a parade they usually just look bored. Maybe once upon a time, when people lived more sheltered existences, seeing a marching band and a bunch of clowns in a tiny car was exciting, or at least broke up the monotony a little. But nowadays parades are just an annoyance.

Parades usually are symbolic and filled with tradition. Like the Macy's day parade. My town has a memorial day parade which is a huge event and I march in it as a member of the marching band.

A lot of traditions are dumb. People just keep doing them because "that's the way it's always been done." No one ever bothers to ask whether anyone actually wants a parade, they just do it.

The Chinatown parade runs right through the middle of Chinatown. The first time I saw it in Ottawa I was actually on my way to the grocery store.

When I am delayed or forced to reroute because of a parade it makes me want to stab someone. Ideally whoever signed off on having a goddam parade in the middle of a public street.
