So how safe do you feel in your neighbourhood?

My parents don't lock any doors, what-so-ever. They even leave the keys in their cars when at home, but of course they live out in a rural area where the closest neighbour is a mile away and there are only about 2,000 people living in the county.

I normally only lock it at night myself, as well as usually anytime i'm leaving for a while (i normally exclude a 5 minute walk to the store.)

Always, I live in a city, albeit on the edge of one, and my house contains many expensive things. Also, the front door is quite far away from where people will usually be.

When my dad is home, my house is like fort knox. We still lock it even when he's not home, but usually only the first lock, not the deadbolt.

I live across the street from a trailer park. I make sure the windows are locked.

I live in a small town where most people tend to keep their homes and vehicles unlocked around the clock. Having lived in a city, and been raised by a mother who lived in a city most of her life, however, I tend to have the city mentality of 'lock the goddamned door.'

A few weeks back, a group of thieves had been going around at night, quietly slipping into people's houses while they were sleeping, taking stuff, and leaving without a trace. As the only house on my block with locked doors, I also was the only house that wasn't burglarized. I feel pretty justified in my precautions now. :v

I love to keep the doors unlocked when I'm awake and at home. My friends can pop in as they like.

1. Buy a gun

2. Leave doors unlocked.

3. ????

4. Profit.

Shell out a little extra to buy the .50 desert eagle, it'll break the bones in your arm clean in half, but it leaves a big fucking hole in whatever you shoot with it.

No, but really, owning a gun is a damned decent idea. I intend to take some gun safety courses pretty soon, actually. Problem is, with no castle doctrine or stand-your-ground laws, I'm left in a position of 'removing myself from danger' if there's a dangerous intruder. Our gun laws may be sensible, but our self-defense laws most certainly are not.

That blows, just shoot it above their heads, it'll scare the fuck out of them.

Only downside is you'll have to clean up a trail of shit left behind.

Fuck the gun safety course. Go tactical shooting. Bring a lot of ammo and stuff to build obstacles.

Although I don't understand why would anyone want to use a gun in home defence? Desert Eagle will shoot through your walls. Depending on the wall, quite possibly even 9mm. Guns are slow, you can't shoot them in long range, you can't shoot them closer than 1-2m usually, guns are usually hidden somewhere in a locker, they take time to get to.

I'm a serious supporter of maze.

This is a post I made about OC in MK after I was sprayed last summer.

As much as a gun is more efficient at defending yourself, I never liked them because I feel this stupid sense of honor when I successfully defend myself or someone else using either my bare hands or a melee weapon, or even my mind.

Living in South Africa forced me into good habits. If you leave your home unlocked, even the steel gate in front of your door unlocked, you could lose everything or die.

I've lived in the tougher areas of small to moderate-sized cities for most of my life. I lock my door.
