I forgot to mention that I"m also watching Last Exile on the side. I'm normally not a fan of CGI but I don't mind it in this one tbh. I like the aesthetic of the setting, kind of a steampunk vibe in many respects.

I love Knights of Sidonia, so I can't claim anti-CGI credentials. I don't really care that much about animation techniques though, I've always been a story-first kind of guy.

I tried so much to like that show, I just couldn't get past the animation style.

The biggest problem I have with the show is how hard the characters are to tell apart. Their faces are really similar.

 

But I love the ideas. And the music. Great music will overcome a lot of visual defects for me.

I suppose I should have clarified instead of broadly proclaiming hatred for all CGI.

I don't like crappy implementation of crude 3D models that completely clash with the other animation present. It kinda ruins the experience. It's just a little annoyance that jars you back into reality temporarily, which is especially annoying when you're getting into a scene.

 

On a side tangent I never got into Knights of Sidonia either lol

That's my problems with all the faces and voices in anime. I'm racist so; they all look and sound alike.

As a former high ranking member of one of the two anime alliances (lol, wasn't that a fun time. Anyone remember that? huh? Huh?!) One would expect I have a veritable shitload of anime on the go at any one time.

 

I don't. Why? Cause I'm a picky bitch and don't like to be bored.

Slice of life? Very nearly always no.

Schoolgirls in japan? Please, not unless it's subverted severely.

New and interesting action mecha awesomesauce? Nope.

... I get bored easily.

Woah, hold on there kids, I didn't say I didn't like it. I just don't watch TV in general. I tend to watch things that are older and held in esteem. The sort of classics that have actually gone through the wringer and people still actually remember. The surprisingly large ratio of Anime to anything else is what should tip people off to what sort of things I like.

 

So what have I watched / am I watching?

Off the top of my head (and by no means is this complete)....

 

Haruhi (lots of it. Oh god was it boring. Tbh it's got a bunch of clever bits, but overall, uggghhhhhhh)

School Days

Lucky Star

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Ghost in the Shell (all possible versions, I love this show)

Fullmetal Alchemist (original series > Brotherhood and nobody can tell me otherwise)

Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan (hehehe)

Akira

Grave of the Fireflies

Higurashi (all of it, including the OVAs)

Madoka (original series, nothing else)

Code Geass (ermagerd that guy had a plan)

Tbh I tried watching Bebop 3 times before now. I got bored about the fourth episode. Here's hoping it doesn't happen again.

 

Please don't try to recommend things, unless they happen to be old, good, and not something I append to this list later.

Ever seen Trigun?

It's old. It's fantastic. It might start off seeming like it doesn't have much plot wise but it gets a lot better.

Other than that...Steins;Gate is quite good. Not sure if you would consider that old but most people consider it a classic among anime (then again it seems everyone and their mother has seen Steins;Gate so chances are likely you've seen it)

 

In terms of your list...I dig it. Lots of good shows on there.
