'157-year-old' woman found

JAKARTA - ESTIMATES of the size and composition of Indonesia's booming population may remain just that despite an ongoing census, if the 'discovery' of a 157-year-old woman is anything to go by.

Census officials have said they believe the woman's claims to have been born in 1853, when Giuseppe Verdi's 'La Traviata' debuted in Venice, the Crimean War erupted and San Francisco got its first street signs at intersections...

Gee, that's convenient, isn't it?

I highly doubt that this is true. Over the years there have been similar claims made, but always by people who's birth records were unavailable, or who had names that were extremely common in their region, etc. The verified oldest person ever to live was 122, and that's a long way from 157. I would need to see some pretty convincing documentation to believe the Indonesian woman's claim.

By the way, half of 157 is 78.5. A lot of people live to be 78.5, King Biscuit! It's kind of not a big deal any more. In fact, usually nowadays if you hear about someone dying before they're 80 the reaction is, "Oh, they weren't even very old!"

I personally couldn't imagine living to be that old.

What's interesting to me is that our idea of "old" has changed so much. Fifty years ago 60 was old. The retirement age was set at 62 because people were only expected to live until 65! Now you have guys like Mick Jagger or David Bowie who are over 60 and still rocking. It really makes me wonder how far this is going to go. Is Snoop Dogg still going to be out there rapping at 80?

I read an article on that (sorry, no link), it seems that the lady has a ~108 year old daughter which led credence to her claims.
Which of course could be fabricated, but just throwing that out there.

It really makes me wonder how far this is going to go. Is Snoop Dogg still going to be out there rapping at 80?

At the increase in age rate or w/e you wanna call it, I have no doubt Snoop will live to be as old as George Burns if not older. I do however doubt that he will still be able to rap, as he will most likely be on a high dose THC drip, and completely fried.
