So as most of you may know, I had to reformat my pc.

I was able to save most of my data, at least the important stuff, with the exception of all my games.

 

Among these is my favorite lesson in futility, Kerbal Space Program.

Well, I'm at it again, this time, with MATHS!

 

Look out Mun, here I come!

Flybys and orbital insertions?

Yes.

Plenty.

 

Actual landings?

Once.

 

Ran out of fuel as I was retro-thrusting and buried my lander into the Munar surface at about 300m/s.

Poor Jeb didn't stand a chance.

Either I'm having a stroke or nothing about this thread makes any sense. Whenever that happens I just assume it's video game related.

It is, Kerbal Space Program is one of the best rocket science simulator out there.

So he is talking about trying to build a working rocket in a simulation.

The Parsons II touched down on the Munar surface at [Unspecified time] on this the 22nd of May, 2015.

Sure we forgot landing gear and kinda crushed the engine, effectively marooning our Kerbalnaut, we're just happy she survived the landing.

 

It's time to either

a] set up a rescue mission

or

b] start shipping her modules for a Mun Base.

I have not even attempted to land and fly off on eve.

 

Beyond saving my stranded chick, not quite sure where I'll go next.

I have a bunch of rendezvous missions I could take a crack at.

Thankfully, version 1 has heatshields. 

 

Well my capsule blow-up(Heat re-entry) due to the capsule flipped(Heatshield pointing at sky) during re-entry. Lost Jeb. :doh:

 

Now I am putting heat sheilds top and bottom on my capsules for now on.

Now I am putting heat sheilds top and bottom on my capsules for now on.

 

I've found that when making low passes through the atmosphere, keeping Stability Control on helps.

Dropping any extra weight helps too.

 

- Thrust break (retro)

- Decouple

- Re-enter

- Heat shield makes magic

- Deploy chute around 10k

- ???

- Profit

I wonder if I could make it there and back with a space plane. Potential for a landing without burning any fuel.
