So, am I thinking too logically here? Like is it just me and my engineering/programming mind? But lets look at something

Supposed a customer comes up and orders

Order: Bacon Cheeseburger, pickles and mustard only

To me I read that as

+ Bacon
+ Cheese
+ Burger
+ Bun (because of burger)

Then

+ Pickles
+ Mustard

From that I would not get
+ Bacon
+ Cheese
+ Burger
+ Bun

+ Pickles
+ Mustard
Oh only
- Bacon


I mean... They said BACON CHEESE BURGER, then only to specify other condiments. Same thing if they say "number 1 with pickles and mustard only" (with #1 being bacon cheese burger meal)

I mean, if they wanted a cheese burger, they would have ordered just a cheese burger, why pay more? And wheres the logic to leave on the cheese if not the bacon?

I mean am I over thinking this? I am thinking too analytically or what

In this case yes it should be assumed you want bacon and cheese. With only pickles and mustard. But if its fast food, what can you expect? Usually not the brightest bunch. I just order my stuff plain so there's no confusion.

Yes, I have had that done to me in the past. If Im at the drive thru at any fast food place, I just order it like it comes. Less headaches.

No you are not overthinking this or thinking "too logically." That is the way it is supposed to be interpreted, and the exact reason why it is supposed to be interpreted that way. You are 100% right and they are 100% wrong.

 

If I order a "Cheeseburger, ketchup only" it is supposed to be Meat, Cheese, Ketchup, Bun. The bun and meat are always a given, as are any ingredients listed in the name of the item.

You sound like my wife. She had the same thing happen to her a few months ago while we were on a road trip. The only difference was it was ketchup instead of the mustard.

Fast food chains are not good at custom orders. They have a set way that they are trained to prepare their products, and they have a difficult time varying from it. When my Little Brother was young he hated pickles and onions on his McDonald's hamburgers. He always ordered them with no pickles and onions, but more often than not (especially at the drive-thru) they would forget and add them anyway. This was always a pain in the butt as he would flat-out refuse to eat a hamburger with pickles and onions, even if they were subsequently removed. The mere fact of their presence was enough to contaminate the entire burger in his 8-year-old mind. 

 

But he's hardly unusual. A lot of kids are picky eaters, and it surprises me that fast food places aren't better at accommodating them, given how much of their business is driven by kids (especially McDonald's).

 

And while we're on the topic: how come McDonald's doesn't serve hot dogs? Hamburgers and hot dogs are a classic combination. Plus kids like hot dogs. And who wouldn't want to slide a big, juicy McWeiner into their mouth?
