Say what you will about Tom Cruise, but the man is dedicated to his craft. A lot of actors do their own stunts at least some of the time, but most of them leave the really dangerous stuff to the professionals. Tom Cruise does them all himself.

 

In his new film, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, there is a scene in which Cruise's character hangs from the outside of a plane as it takes off. In order to get the shot, they actually strapped Tom Cruise to the side of a plane and took off. And not just once -- it took eight takes to get the shot. Now, I've been skydiving, so I can tell you from experience that hanging from a plane is scary as shit, even with a parachute.

 

Sure, there's the whole scientology thing. But no one can say Tom Cruise doesn't have balls. Big brass ones, I'd say.

 

Or maybe scientologists can fly.

That said, William Shatner did all his own stunts on T.J. Hooker. Which I think was crazier. At least Tom Cruise was strapped onto the airplane, Shatner just used to go rolling around on the hoods of moving cars.

Edge of tomorrow changed my life. One of my favorite action movies now. I just saw it the other day.

Tom Cruise had terrible teeth as a young man, and had them straightened/fixed. Possibly his palate is slightly off-center compared to his nose (or maybe his nose is slightly off-center). Either way, it creates the "tooth in the center of the face" effect. I do think that first picture is photoshopped to enhance it. But most people's faces aren't perfectly symmetrical.
