Do you have a favorite make of car?  If so, what country does it come from?  Do you think cars from certain countries are better than others?  Or does it not matter to you?

Seriously though, I've only ever driven Fords or Hondas that I can think of. Things that are mass produced. A car is a car is a car really. I haven't driven enough to really have an opinion (can't afford to have an opinion on French vs. Swedish cars ).

You have your ideal "dream car" based on looks, you have how well they drive (how you feel driving them) or actual performance. You have gas mileage, and maintenance (cost of ownership, ease of repairs, cost of parts even). blah blah blah.

Don't care that it's one and a half million dollars a car. Don't care that the thing is going to eat all my money in petrol. Don't care that it's amazing top speed will never even be glimpsed in Perth.

Koenigsegg earned my everlasting ire for its role in the Saab bankruptcy fiasco (short version: the owner of Koenigsegg, who happens to be a prince, almost bought Saab from GM and saved them from the executioner, but he backed out at the last minute).

 

Also I added Italy, which actually was a pretty big oversight considering that we have Fiats in this country again.  I like that they're here, and I am looking forward to seeing Alfa Romeos back on American roads (word is they're coming over too), but the current Fiat 500s are too cartoonish for my tastes.

 

As with so many other things, I find myself inextricably drawn to the Scandinavians.  I'm a Saabista from way back, and I also really like Volvos, especially the new V60 due to debut in January:

Also, it's not really a big brand, rather new, a niche, but what are your thoughts on Teslas? I remember seeing them a few years ago, and the idea of a electric sports car really excited me.... haven't really heard too much, or ever driven one obviously. So thoughts?

Tesla is the future of the automobile industry.  Already they have a $40,000 car that can go 300 miles on a charge; their goal is a sub-$30,000 car that can go 500 miles on a charge.  And they're about to introduce a 90-second recharger.  As these technologies mature, and prices drop, we're going to see more and more electric cars on the roads.  By all accounts Teslas are impressive, well-built, fun to drive vehicles.

 

The plan for Saab, by the way, is to become an all-electric car company, a kind of European Tesla.  Fingers crossed...

There will never be flying cars.  Not because the technology doesn't exist, but because the population cannot be trusted to operate them safely.  Think about all the idiots out there on the road — do you really want them flying?

 

Let me amend that:  There will never be operator-controlled flying cars.  Computer-controlled flying vehicles are somewhat less unlikely (but I still wouldn't hold my breath).
