No really. The writing instrument. I did not forget an I, get your mind out of the gutter.

What type is your favourite? Do you even have a favourite? Do you have a favourite model? Do you have that one pen that has survived since primary school that you *still* use?!

I couldn't resist...

But on topic, I did have a pen that I liked, but I've since fallen out of favor with it. I do like having a certain utensil that I like using. I can't really recall some of the different types though/how they write.

For the greatest while recently I've been writing with mechanical pencils, so glad you had that as an option.

Not proud that I didn't choose that option, but this is still a free country. I will do as I please.

Firstly a pencil in a topic called pens.... :swoon2:

Secondly, it would have to be a ballpoint pen as most of those other listed are the nemesis to left handed people.

You have to use them with special ink when signing official documents, was like "wtf" when they passed me a fountain pen that had been dipped in ink to sign my sons birth certificate....did I mention I'm left handed too.... could of bitch slapped the person for taking the piss.

Regular standard ballpoint. Roller balls are ok but they dry up too fast and write uneven. Regular Pencils are okay too. I was never able to efficiently use a mechanical pencil, I HATED those things.

I used to have favorite pens when I was younger and used them more, but not now. I prefer a pen that is very heavy though.

For me it has to be razor-tipped "felt," although the correct term is "porous point."  My current favorite it the Staples DuraPoint.

oooh o: I didn't think anyone would use a felt (porous point) pen.

My handwriting is so shit, it doesn't matter. So, why not make it classy? Plus, most newer fountains and inks are far less likely to leak. The powers of improved technology :3

This. I use a fountain pen when doing something relatively formal, like writing a letter or doing a final draft of poetry; a rollerball pen otherwise.

You have to sign your child's birth certificate? Here ours are only signed by someone from the Office of Vital Statistics, and that's it. Or at least that was the case when I was born; now I believe they're barcoded, so they might not be signed at all.

I steal all my pens from work, so they're pretty cheap ballpoints, but they work, and I rarely write things anyway :P

Fountain pens are kind of fun to write with, but I wouldn't want to depend on them.  We live in an age of wonders.

...Unless of course someone were in a situation where there was a known, specific threat from which they were trying to hide, i.e. an abusive ex or something like that.  Or the Witness Protection Program.  Although I suppose in that case you'd have a whole new identity, so it would be safe to go online with that as long as you didn't post pictures or anything linking to your old identity.  But I'm meandering...

Birth certificates are sort of anachronistic documents.  Public schools, for example, require them in order to register students, but why?  Why do you need a piece of paper to prove you were born?  Isn't your mere existence enough?  And it's not a citizenship thing, because (in Massachusetts at least) we do not require proof of citizenship or legal residency to attend public school, just a birth certificate and some proof that the child lives in the school district (like a utility bill, etc.).  And it's not like they have pictures on them, so they're not really a very effective means of identification.

This is probably another case of "this is the way we've always done it," and no one really gives any thought to whether it's necessary any more.

A lot of people like those Pilot G2s.  They're way too smooth-writing for me.  I do like mechanical pencils, though.    I usually get these:
