Every time I hear any reference to Subway's five-dollar footlongs I think of the song, which reminds me of a funny story. I was at the middle school for a meeting, and I was walking down the corridor behind a kid who clearly did not know I was there, because he was singing:

He didn't get in trouble (and he could have; most faculty wouldn't be dicks about something like that, but there are a few who most definitely would be), and I come away with a great story.

Well the federal tax rate is 39%, so you combine that with state tax which is anywhere from 0 to 10%, and you could lose between 390,000 and 490,000, or be left with 610,000 to 510,000. Because gifts and other things are often taxed higher, you might have to pay more; people who win the lottery are lucky to walk away with half the money they won. It's why the Nobel prize is like, 2.6 million now, so you can go home with 1 million after taxes. Since it likely wouldn't classify as income, 500,000 or less dollars is more or less measurable. 

 

Although, this assumes 1 million flat, so someone's already done the tax calculations for you and is giving you 2.12 million dollars or what have you.
