[The Dark Empire]

I'm an all rounder man myself. My favorite stroke is breaststroke by far but for some reason everyone else hates it. My best strokes are that and back stroke. My usual events are 200 medley relay, 200 free, 200 IM, 500 Free, 200 Free Relay, 100 Br, and 400 Fr relay. I usually swim 3 events per meet and I get put in all kinds of events. 

 

Right now I'm struggling to break my times and I've hit a plateau and I can't get any faster even though I swim 5 times a week. 

 

Any one else swim or used to swim

I'm a freestyle. I only get to swim whenever I get a chance, however I know how to swim and I could teach anyone how to. As long as they're fine with being yelled at in a Drill Sergeant manner.

I have a slight case of flatfoot, so running isn't my favourite hobby. I've replace it with swimming when ever I can.

I prefer breaststrokes. Although I know my technique sucks. But then again I don't compete in swimming either.

Pretty much this exactly, except I'm completely flat footed. That with my bad knees makes swimming a really good thing for me and I love it.

In my life, breaststroke generally means something different. Hopefully your technique in that area is at least OK. B)

 

Also, there is no "freestyle" stroke. The stroke that all swimmers use in the freestyle event is the crawl, because it's the fastest.

I picked freestyle because I have an unusual crawl, wherein I don't so much kick as sort of lunge forward with each stroke.  I don't know if it's faster than kicking the "right" way, but it feels faster.  I swim 1.15 miles about three times a week, alternating with days when I run instead.

I had to get out of the pool during a race once because I started choking after I inhaled too much water after a flipturn. Trust me the breathing is hard for everyone. You just get used to it after a while.

I prefer a breaststroke with flutter kick. I generally move the fastest that way.

But I love swimming. Haven't been in the water in maybe 4 years, but I love it.

Oh yeah. I can't swim in North American pools because the chlorine makes my skin itch. Also I now live in Ottawa so I don't really swim anymore at all. I guess I probably used to crawl badly.
