Yeah it sounds like he made a big ass pipe bomb basically. By the looks of it, it wasn't meant to kill, but to really fuck some shit up. In my opinion they are probably going to be looking for a unabomber-styled individual.

 

In the end, nails and bbs aren't going to kill, but maim. That's what we saw. 2 explosions and only 8 deaths? Pretty damn good fallout all things considered. He could have packed something extremely explosive in there, like potassium (probably unlikely), C4, gasoline, TNT or Urea Nitrate. But in the end the explosions weren't that big. Which leads me to believe he was more interested in hurting people than taking lives.

Also, more than likely unrelated, but interesting: an envelope was intercepted that contained ricin. Most likely an attempt to kill the Mississippi Senator.

I just want to rant about this somewhere, I don't really care who listens. Yes this was a sad event and people want something done. In the United States, an estimated 36,000 people die per year from suicides. Although these aren't very visible it's like having a 9/11 event happen every month. The government spends x100 more preventing 'terrorist attacks' than it helps it's own citizens. And also, the news acts like crime is at an all time high and yet evidence shows crime is at an all time low in decades, so why do the have to be fear mongerers?

As I write this, at 7pm on Wednesday, the authorities seem confident they have the person in question identified.  There have been rumors all day that there had been an arrest or that they had someone in custody; the FBI has denied this, but the federal courthouse in Boston was evacuated due to a bomb threat, whether this was related is not known.  But there has been a lot of speculation that the suspect was in the building.

 

There was supposed to be a press conference at 1pm, which was later pushed back to 5pm, which has since been pushed back again.  Some sources have reported off the record that an operation is under way.  I bet we see an arrest tonight or tomorrow morning.

And now there is some talk of a possible second suspect.  But that is very premature and based on sketchy reports.  Remember, for most of Monday night it was being reported as fact that two unexploded devices had been recovered.

 

Video surveillance camera footage has identified a male suspect wearing a white baseball cap (backwards), light-colored hoodie, and a black jacket as a suspect.  Although no one is confirming it, word on the street is that they know who it is and that they are confident it's their guy.  At one point he was described as "dark-skinned," but the media took a lot of flack for that so they seem to have dropped it.  A commonly-repeated rumor is that the individual in question has an accent, but so far it is just a rumor.
