I don't see there being a sequel to Cabin. Well, I guess what I should say is I don't see there being a GOOD sequel to it. I certainly wouldn't put it past the studio to try to milk it for as much as they can get. But now that the big secret has been revealed the magic would be gone. Think of the godawful sequels to The Blair Witch Project.

I was just going to say everything good and bad about The Avengers and how much I enjoyed it overall... then I wondered why no-one'd been talking about it, and it seems you American's you don't get it 'til May? Cabin in the Woods hasn't come out here yet, so when I opened the spoilers my eyes kind of glazed over as a self-defence mechanism :|


That said, I'm going to withhold a spoiler-heavy post 'n assessment of the movie because I know people will make it my fault if they can't ignore spoiler tags :| You should all go and see it, though - the more I think about it (and while it wasn't perfect) the more I'm sure it's as good as any Avengers movie could be in the context of the recent Marvel efforts. In fact, the ensemble cast and the character interaction means it's so much more satisfying than any of the existing movies... and some of the superheroes who suffer in trying to carry a movie on their own work much better with slightly limited screen time. They pack a bigger punch


A handful of things I didn't like... but they didn't really detract from the overall quality - still exceeded my expectations. I want to talk about how good one character was and how two others could have been better used, but that wasn't the popular view in the group of people I went to see it with... so I'll leave you to wonder who I'm talking about? :v

As for the movie: No, we don't get it until May 4. I don't know this for a fact, but it wouldn't surprise me to find out that they use Australia as a test market for the US. That way they still have time to change anything that maybe audiences there didn't like.

The group dynamics aspect was always a big part of the comic book. I liked Thor much better as a member of Avengers than in his own book, for example. And a character like Hawkeye, despite their best efforts, was never able to establish himself independently from the group title.

Cabin really reminded me of another horror film called

Cube. Without giving to much away the plot is a group of strangers wake up after having been kidnapped in a maze which is boobytrapped, and they are left wondering why, for punishment? amusement?

It's low budget because its Canadian but worth a look if you guys love horror movies (which I dont really)

I put that last post into a spoiler box because reading it could inadvertently give away some of the plot of Cabin. That said,

the difference between Cube and The Cabin in the Woods is that in the latter the audience is not really sure what is going on, whereas in Cube it's clear from the beginning that they have been placed there for some reason. And there is nothing really supernatural in Cube.

What I really liked about The Cabin in the Woods were all the nods to the horror movies from the 70s and 80s. Even the cabin itself resembled the one from Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2. It might even have been the very same one for all I know!

ahh i didnt bother to spoiler tag that bit because every trailer I saw for the film gave that away, in fact the first scene of the movie does.

yeah I like that they didn't answer why they were in there. Apparently they do in the sequels but I'm not going to watch them from what i've heard

disliked "The Fool". They tried to hard to make him the likeable one of the bunch but he just came across lame.
