Except that people were giving each other gifts and celebrating winter solstice long before a certain Nazarene carpenter-cum-prophet was ever even heard of. Christians later found it easier to co-opt an existing holiday and superimpose their own meaning on top of it. Now we call it "The story of Christmas." Heh.

I'm not so sure of that. There were lots of so-called prophets running around the Holy Land at that time. Many historians believe that a historical Jesus existed in some form. Legends have to start somewhere. Robin Hood, King Arthur, Prester John, the Queen of Sheba -- these and many other legendary figures likely have their origins in actual, living people. The trouble is separating the myth and legend from the history.

Yeah especially when so many different people who didn't know each other wrote about a person who never traveled more than a hundred miles away from his birth place and consolidated all their writing into one book that can be found in homes everywhere. And since we can't see him he's not real. Just because it doesn't make sense it's not real.

This is what I believe in and you can believe in something else. The choice you make is the right choice for you and you shouldn't change it if that's what you believe. I thought I might share what Christmas means to me.

Actually there are many historical traditions in which Jesus traveled quite far from the Holy Land during his youth, perhaps even to ancient Gaul (France).

Anyway, I am not trying to start an argument or anything. But I see no reason to think there could not have been a historical figure upon whom the legendary Jesus is based. That doesn't make him divine.

Pretty sure there is documented proof that Jesus Christ existed. Being the son of God and born of a virgin mother is where you lose me though.
