I've decided to lower my standards to get the most menial job possible. Sick and tired of going above and beyond, having all kinds of responsibilities and getting nothing for it. Now that they've boosted their minimum to $9.25, it's a friggin awesome job.. lol at people who can't live on a Walmart salary, I'll be doing better there then working in Information Technology. It will also be awesome when all the people there don't go to work so they can go cry to make $15/hr and I'll be one of the few who actually stays in the store to work, should be like instant promotion. 10% employee discount. The perks are endless.

 

Wish they'd call back! Been unemployed for a month now, that's WAY too long.

 

I'm hoping for a sweeping and mopping job although ideally I'd like to stock shelves in the grocery.

 

WOW, there's even a bus route that goes directly there. Sweet.

Temporary job remodeling the store, 40 hrs a week. Depending on my performance it could go perm. Comes out to $300/wk after taxes. Easily pays the bills.

Still won't have health insurance, but I'd rather pay the $90/fine then $6000/yr (and that's just for the policy itself, the deductible is $14,000). Gonna be sweet to go the emergency room for everything and be like "no insurance".

 

I could just stay unemployed and ride the gravy train, but I'm going out of my mind not working.

Only thing is I may need to get a carry license since I'll be working the overnight shift and need to walk from the parking lot to the store.

My point was if you fuck it up again that it will be worse and permanent. Just be careful... back injuries nag for the rest of your life.

 

Also on the carry thing, I doubt Walmart lets you. Being big business, they probably want to steer clear of trouble.

I would never get bored being unemployed. As long as I had enough money to live in reasonable comfort, I would be happy as a clam (side note: are clams really that happy?).

Well, you are sort of used to it, since you get summers off...  

 

When you're doing the 40 hour week year round for 23 years, you miss it when it's not there.

 

It's gonna be hard adjusting to a night shift though, I know that. I don't know how the hell I'm gonna go to sleep when the sun is out.

 

Just got in my 3rd fight with the guy at the public assistance office... I'm not even TRYING to scam the system and that's all that I basically keep getting accused of.

I work all year.

 

Nights can be tough, especially sleeping during the day, as you said. What I found helpful was having the room be as dark as I could get it and as isolated from outside noise. You'd be amazed how loud an average neighborhood gets during the day when you're trying to sleep. Workmen hammering, dogs barking, kids playing, etc. And you have to turn off your cellphone because no matter how many times you explain it no one understands that if you work at night you need to sleep during the day. I also found that I used the air conditioner more than I might otherwise, because it helps with filtering out noise (and light, because you can close all the windows). But the bottom line, for me anyway, was that I never got as much sleep as I needed when I worked nights. You just sort of get used to always being a little tired.

Yup. And the thing is, you can't even really be mad because it is, after all, daytime, when all of that shit is supposed to happen. You're the one with the weird schedule. But that doesn't help when the neighbor's barking dog WON'T SHUT THE FUCK UP.

 

White noise helps. That's how I got started always sleeping with a fan on. But as I said, no one ever really gets it. People will call you in the middle of the day, or want to get together because you have the "day off." They cannot or will not understand that if you are awake all night you need to SLEEP DURING THE DAY, because you can't stay awake ALL THE TIME. It's frustrating and funny and puzzling all at the same time. The upshot is that if someone is really being an idiot about it, you can start calling them on your 3AM break. "Hey man, wanna hang out?" See how they like it.
