Hardly. The culture of celebrity is not a modern invention. It's been around for as long as there has been civilization.

As to the royal boob exposure, my guess is that the incident was manufactured. Like I said, it's all part of the game. Thrash is right, someone that scrutinized doesn't sit topless on an open balcony without knowing what is coming. She may be new(er) to the paparazzi, but her husband isn't. William has lived with this his whole life (there's a cute story about him as a boy bringing hot chocolate to a photographer one cold night). They knew exactly what they were doing.
