What a shitty thing to say, right? Sad to say it's true. It's supposed to be a joyful (whatever that means) time, a time to spend with the people who are important to you, etc., etc., blah blah blah. We all know the spiel. But the reality is that I'm an adult. I already spend time with the people who are important to me. Christmas has become nothing but an obligation. An obligation to go places, an obligation to buy presents, an obligation to spend time with people with whom I specifically do not want to spend time — that's why I don't see them the rest of the year. The crass commercialism doesn't particularly bother me; it's no more crass than any other time of the year, frankly. It's that they call it a holiday, but really it's just another kind of work day: shit you have to do because that's just how it is. And like a workday, I find myself trying to run out the clock.
Anyone have kids? I imagine it's a little different if you have kids. If nothing else that aspect of it is probably fun. Also it gives you an excuse to buy toys that you'd really like for yourself. I'm sure Nas' daughter would have one HELL of a Barbie collection.
Well, one hell of a Ken collection, anyway.
