Next Generation was cool but also boring. Voyager was like full kick ass. Plus Janeway was bitchin' and seven of nine could be hot at times

Janeway vs. Picard
Why Captain Janeway is Better Than Captain Picard

More hair than all previous Star Trek commanding officers combined.
Drinks coffee, not that sissy "Earl Grey" stuff.
Beams down to the planet like real Captains should.
Mutes the doctor when the doctor gets out of line.
Hasn't let an adolescent pilot the Federation flagship — yet.
Commanded ships blown up: Picard: 2 Janeway: 0
Voyager needs a female Captain. Its Captain must be willing to admit they're lost and pull over for directions.
Picard likes to talk his way through. Janeway likes to punch her way through.
Hasn't quoted Shakespeare — yet.
Looks better in sleepwear.
Gives guilt trips that would make a Jewish mother proud.
Isn't French with an English accent.
"Take this cheese to sickbay!"
Will give you two days off to ponder your lifeshattering experience.
Janeway says "I don't like you!" to her enemies instead of trying to convince them to behave better.
To comfort children, Janeway cares for them in a loving motherly way. Picard sings a song… in French… about a monk… who can't wake up for morning bells.
The only children on Voyager can be turned off at will.
Janeway has a First Officer with a tattoo.
She doesn't have any pesky Federation Admirals to get in her way.
Three words: Compression Phaser Rifles.
Acknowledges freely when she breaks the Prime Directive instead of trying to weasel her way out of it with philosophical ramblings.
15 episodes without surrendering the ship.
15 episodes and Wesley has yet to save the ship.
Janeway's holo programs create useful things like doctors and lungs. Picard's holodecks create maniacal evil geniuses who yet again take over the ship.
She doesn't need to straighten her uniform every time she stands.
Janeway has never worn green tights and frolicked about in Sherwood Forest. However, if she did, she would look fantastic!
Kirk looked good in ripped shirts; Picard looked good without a shirt; Janeway would look… no, they can't do that on network television.
Cheese
Doesn't force her crew to wear awful outfits, unless it is to blend in with a primitive planet.
She doesn't waste time learning foreign languages. All lifeforms in the Delta Quadrant speak perfect English.
Her engineer does not wear a banana clip over her eyes.
Slouches in her chair even in critical life-threatening moments.
Doesn't have a Counselor on board (thank God!).
Her telepath only lives nine years.
Janeway heard the words "boldly go where no man (er, woman) has gone before" and took them to the extreme.
Picard tells alien cultures, "I hope our two cultures will one day come to a greater understanding." Janeway threatens them with "the deadliest of force".
Janeway's Security Chief would never grow a ponytail.
The high point of Enterprise cuisine were scrambled eggs that only Worf could stomach.
Janeway doesn't have to point which way to go when they set off.
Maintains an elaborate hairdo that would baffle even Princess Leia.
Has mastered facial expression understood by all to mean, "Boy, Paris, are YOU ever stupid."
Cheese cheese cheese cheese cheese. I can't help myself!
Hugs her Vulcan from time to time.
Has a more manly voice.
Doesn't have a starship that splits in half when it's in a tight spot.
Has a dog and a significant other, not some damn fish!
Kes. Troi. No contest.
Neelix. Replicator. Ok, this one's debatable.
At least she doesn't have to yell "Hot!" at her cook every time she wants something to drink.
Her ship has neat-looking folding warp nacelles.
Her CONN officer actually went through the Academy.
Her CONN officer can use contractions.
Her first officer has a hallucinogenic device.
None of the crew members' relatives have ever tried to take over the ship, invade the Federation, steal a starship, or enslave all humankind.
To help her relax, Janeway's first officer helps her contact her spirit guide. Picard's first officer helps him get… to Risa.

It's usually whatever Star Trek you grew up with.  For me it will always be NextGen.

I grew up with TOS. TNG started when I was seventeen, by which time I'd been watching TOS reruns for many years.

I like DS9 best as an SF show. But it isn't very Star Trek-like. That's probably why I like it best though.

Star Trek always had terrific actors. That's true of every series, it's even true of the new films which really aren't Star Trek anymore. Pretty much all the series have one genuinely untalented actor, ironically generally a woman (TOS - Whitney, TNG - McFadden, Voy - Dawson, Ent - Blalock). DS9 doesn't really have any really gratingly annoying actors. Siddig was very rough in the early seasons, but he gets better as the show goes on and he learns how to act, essentially the same kind of thing as what happened with Frakes on TNG.

Most importantly, the writing on DS9 actually paid attention to that foreign idea called continuity, which is where Star Trek is generally fairly crappy and Enterprise is the absolute pits. The show progresses in a logical way given the assumptions made by the writers, the characters actually react to events in an interesting and believable way, and do not start Klingon time travel soap operas (TNG) or decide to completely ignore the issues brought up by the crew being from two different and opposing military organizations after the first season (Voyager). For instance. Or you could have the writers decide that continuity is completely boring and it would be more fun to have an incomprehensible time-travel war going on so that you can have Ferengi, which aren't a popular alien race anyway, and then you're watching Enterprise.

TOS has a peculiar charm to it. Shatner is such a boisterous actor, I actually kinda like him still but his in your face style of Shakespearian acting is such a huge part of the show, it's hard to get away from it and think about the sf content. When TOS was being made, Roddenberry had no idea he was making a cult show, so there's all kinds of stuff in there which just do not work in the context of a long-running series, including some of the best episodes. (Like The Doomsday Machine, which is terrific but really doesn't belong on a show that isn't like The Outer Limits.)

Okay, here's my commentary.

TOS is awesome, but full of cheese. The only important things that come from that are the movies. They are amazing. And Khan. I had a huuuge crush on Khan when I was mini-dezra, just cause of that accent. Given, I have that again, cause new Khan is played by Cumberbatch, and that's even better.

TNG is also awesome, in some ways better than TOS, in some ways worse, some episodes are positively boring. The movies for TNG are better than the TOS movies. I loved Insurrection and Nemesis. I loved Nemesis alot.

However, I love Voyager much more. Voyager was almost never boring. Because at no point was it ever Business As Usual. Also, Warship Voyager. Hell. Yes. My Star Trek Online character's crew uniform makeup is based on the costume design from that episode. Soooo goooood :3

I stand by the assertion that Enterprise is not a real Star Trek show. It's crap. Really crap. Apart from the Borg episodes that tie up loose ends to First Contact. That was clever.

And DS9 was horrible. I mean all that was was a huge collection of business as usual, interspersed with suddenly war with really boring opponents. It was like the Romulans and the Klingons all over again, with less charm. Far less charm. In fact I would go so far to say that the Cardassians, Dominion, and Breen were the most dull aliens Star Trek has ever produced.

As for Picard looking the same now as he has for like... ever?

When you reach max level, you stop leveling.

I'm not surprised you didn't like DS9, the most interesting parts of it were the discussions of spirituality (which you hate) and politics (which is where it radically diverges from established Star Trek ideology).

Voyager had massive amounts of boring. That just seems really weird to me. I mean, basically all of Season 4 except for the Hirogen two-parter. Also any scene featuring the astonishing wooden acting talents of Dawson.

Nemesis isn't in my ten worst films of all time. But it's in the running. It's not just bad Star Trek, it's an absolute disaster of a film that doesn't know whether it wants to be a Star Trek film, a horror film, or an SF shootemup, and is extremely badly directed on top of it. Nemesis displaced ID4 as being the worst film with Brent Spiner in it ever. (Without Brent Spiner, both films would probably be on my top ten worst ever. Brent Spiner is a god.) That said, I really like Insurrection, an absolutely charming little movie (partly because it has a lot of Brent Spiner), and First Contact is a terrific film. I still like TUC and TVH a lot though. But FC is third, maybe second on some days depending on how I feel between it and TVH.

Enterprise is indeed crap. I stopped watching it when they had Ferengi on. I mean, I can handle some continuity errors, this is Star Trek, but that's like a giant truck driving along in space. It's so bad. If the show had been positively brilliant apart from breaking all continuity completely, I could have handled it as perhaps some kind of parallel universe sort of thing, but it wasn't.

Also, you can exceed max level with the 1.9 update by making skills legendary. B-)

That legendary thing is a gimmick and everyone knows it! :P

I'm surprised there's so much hates for Nemesis. I loved it. The Reman design aesthetic was so pretty.

Then again, I'm a Romulan/Borg fangirl, so it's fairly obvious why I would have liked a young Picard fighting for the Romulan team.

And consequently why I freaking loved the shit out of Nero and the Narada.

Although I like TNG better, when it comes to the movies TOS has it all over them.  The NextGen movies mostly played like two-part episodes of the show, it's like the writers couldn't come up with something grand enough for the big screen.  Nemesis was just godawful, and widely credited as the final nail in the coffin for that generation (no pun intended) of Star Trek movies.

The new movies are fun, but they don't feel like Star Trek.
