Selected more or less at random (in other words I just thought them up).  Pick a power:

 

Telepathy.  You can read minds and transmit your thoughts to any person within a 100-foot radius of yourself.  You cannot control people's minds, nor alter their memories, possess their bodies, or any other of the sort of things characters like Professor X do all the time.  You can read people's minds and transmit your thoughts, nothing more.  Most of the time you can read an individual's mind without that person being aware, but some people with particularly strong wills/psyches may be able to sense your presence, or even resist to some extent.

 

Light Emission.  Your body is capable of radiating a white light of any intensity up to and including a "photonic burst" capable of temporarily blinding/stunning anyone within a 30-foot radius.  After emitting such a burst your powers need to to recharge for five minutes before you can emit another photonic burst.

 

Falcon Form.  You can shape-shift into a large adult falcon, and in that form can do anything a falcon can do, i.e. fly, swoop down on prey/enemies, see things really far away in great detail, have a hankering for rodents, etc., etc.  It's totally awesome, but there is a caveat:  The longer you remain in falcon form the greater the risk of losing yourself to the beast and never coming back.  Four hours is the maximum safe period in falcon form; at eight hours the chances of your coming back are 50%, down to 25% at sixteen hours.  24 hours in falcon form and you are stuck that way forever.

 

Touch of Death.  Direct, skin-to-skin contact with another living creature causes instant death to that creature.  You cannot control it or turn it off; anyone or anything you touch will die.  Direct skin contact is a must, even thin gloves will block the effect.  No cause of death for the victim will ever be determined; all biological functions simply stop at your touch.  Pets such as dogs or cats are usually protected by their fur, but will die if direct contact is made with their skin.

Telepathy, hands-down. Much as I like the idea of being able to fly as a bird, I can't see a practical use for it: it'd just be a fun thing to do. On the other hand, telepathy seems like it would have some awesome real-world applications.

Realistically, Telepathy.

But Touch of Death interests me... I just wish it wasn't instant. Makes it harder to just go around places and touching everyone.

Population control is a real issue people.

Touch of death: useless. All I can do is kill people, and I can do that already. Plus, it won't take a rocket scientist to figure out that I'm always nearby when people die. Plus cameras. It will only be a matter of time before I'm found.

Falcon form: also useless. I can use a plane right now. Plus there's a chance some guy with a shotgun will nail me.

Light Emission: what does this do? I can be a mobile disco ball?

Telepathy: This is good. I can use and abuse this. And it's technically untraceable. My superpowers will remain a secret >.>

 

 

EDIT: after thinking a little, falcon form could have some uses. Long range anonymous travel. Able to bypass lots of security. Capable of eavesdropping. But I think telepathy still beats it.

I wanted touch of death, but then I realized any sort of physical fun is gone.

 

So I want light emission. I'd most likely end up being a villain with it. Taking things, if someone see me I blind them and be off. lol It also reminds me of one of my favorite moves in DB/DBZ.

I thought the light emission power was pretty cool, and I was tempted to take it myself, but that damned telepathy is just too tempting.  I mean, I guess you could say we're all taking it too seriously, but that was sort of the point.  If you had to have one of these powers in real life.  That's why I stripped telepathy of its other stuff.  But even still it's too powerful.  Maybe we should just take it out.

To be fair, these things often are like that. They need to be fair or it's a dumb poll.

I know you're a true believer in the touch of death (you're a good man), but we have to all vote Falcon Punch.

It's the only way Lord Jorost will kill it, and we will be one step closer to bringing the holy Touch to all the voters.

I wasn't mad.  It just seemed like we'd gotten the answer we were going to get:  Telepathy by a wide margin.  Which made me realize that it really was much more useful and powerful than the other three, when the idea was that they would be all roughly equal.

 

I ended up choosing Falcon Form as well, because the idea of flying is irresistible.  Light Emission would arguably be more useful, especially if you could learn to better control it.  I mean, the ability to stun people alone makes one potentially very powerful, but light emission could mean a wide number of things, from dull glow to lighthouse beacon.  That's free energy right there.  Find a way to convert it and...

 

But in the end I kept coming back to my burning building analogy.  If I was trapped in a burning building, and the only choice was burn to death or jump to my death, being able to fly would suddenly become REALLY useful.  And that's not the only time.  Plus swooping down and gouging out the eyes of people I hate appeals to me.

In regard to Learz's comments about Touch of Death, above:  It's not useless.  Yes, you can kill people now, but this makes it a LOT easier, plus it guarantees anonymity.  Even if someone sees you, what are they going to do?  Yes, in a worst case scenario you could conceivably get arrested, but since no cause of death will ever be found, nor any murder method, you would go scot-free.  But honestly as long as no one sees you no one need ever know it was you.  And if someone catches on and starts to ask questions, well, you can always just shake their hand. 

 

The real question is, if you had this power, would you use it?  I would.
