The Egyptian word for "Egypt" is Kīmi (Ⲭⲏⲙⲓ) in modern Coptic orthography, and Kemet (𓆎𓅓𓏏𓊖) in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. The phrase "Land of Egypt" would be KaxRem̀nkīmi (ⲔⲁⳉⲢⲉⲙ̀ⲛⲭⲏⲙⲓ).

Yeah, so obviously it took me a while to see this post. I don't come here very often any more. I tend to spend most of my time on STL but strangely I rarely see most of you there...

But thanks for the update. Kemet, eh? I wonder how they know that? I mean, I know they know the hieroglyphics for things, but how do they know how they were pronounced? I assume there must be some ancient document or documents which described the phonetics of the ancient Egyptian language.

Is the modern day Egypts official name Masr? Anyone know what that means?

Actually, I'm not quite sure what it 'means', insofar as some sort of etymology. I'd imagine it had some sort of connection to the Nile, considering Kemet did, but that's a good question...
