There's plenty about violence in the Bible and the Koran. But like most religious texts, they are inherently self-contradictory.

I think Haf has the truth of it when it comes to ideology. The Scandinavian countries have done a good job of adopting/adapting the best of Marx, but their approach to governance is pragmatic and problem-solving. They have found that socialism can exist side-by-side with a thriving, industrialist, free-market economy. They also make amazing pop music.

We talked in another thread about the "Scandinavian" (we named it "Swedish" there) model. I'm not going to repeat the arguments given there. As it seems, this discussion could go on forever, as we have different backgrounds and philosophical views. Which is fine by me! :)

It should also be said that a lot of my approach to politics comes from having lived for a year in Iceland, which is a country that has a lot of problems (my main one being that you can't get fresh fruit there) but in terms of politics was the most sensible place I've ever lived.

All countries have a lot of problems. I would say that Iceland probably has fewer than most. Although they did ban strip clubs, which could be a BIG problem if you're trying to throw a bachelor party!

 

If not technically Scandinavian (since it's not located on the Scandinavian peninsula), Iceland is at least a Nordic country.

Yes, a police officer should have no privacy and abide by the laws no matter how ridiculous they might be, but they should also get paid 4 times as much as they do.
I smoked a joint with a highway patrol cop in holiday, TX.

Police should all be robots. Problems = solved. Nothing ever went wrong with armed robots providing security.
