Alright, it is time to upgrade my dear old computer. The CPU and motherboard need to be upgraded because they are over 6 years old and showing their age when I'm playing video games. I already upgraded my graphics card to a Nvidia GTS 450. So I need some recommendations here. I saw these and was interested in the AMD FX-6100 or Intel bundle, are they good?

I'd rather shell out $200 than shell out $600+ for a system I'd barely play.

Does not compute. I don't play games, but I wouldn't buy anything with an i3 even for basic use, gotta be at least an i5.

Yeah, but from reading those details, I could tell you right now that the Phenom II (the 2nd one) would whip the other two's asses out of the water.

Okay, On my buy list I have: XION Gaming Series XON-980-BK Black with RED LED Light Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case, MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS, AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8120FRGUBOX, CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B. I already have a video card and HDD's. Is that good enough for a low end gaming pc?

It seems like on processors, the cache size makes a pretty sizable difference on speed, and that processor passes the eye test as far as being a pretty salty fucker goes.

But I really don't know anything about gaming, but I'd assume that it would do the trick. Also, what do you have figured out on the power supply?

I forgot about that, I'm going to need a new power supply, I only have a 550w.
