What is the "political correctness" in your view? Does it even have a generally accepted definition? Should it be considered in the narrow sense of "correctness of speech", or rather in a broader and more functional sense, that's bound to have all the ingredients of a (progressive) ideology? And would you consider yourself to be a "politically correct" person or not?  :)

I try to be, but usually no. D:

There would need to be a glossary or dictionary for me to be able to get all the things right, and even then... it's hard to get up with all these fancy shmancy sentence enhancers.

I use gay, bitch, cancer and AIDS way too much when I describe things.

Ex: "That homework was AIDS"

I'm so proud of us.

My vote wast he 10th for "no".

Only thing is, when you go to test it, not all PC or non-PC talk is the same. How far can you be pushed? How far have you gone?

Ha-ha! Usually, I can handle it pretty well, but occasionally I may burst into rage, just like a "normal" person does. It hasn't happened since I've been in Invicta though...

Well, the OP actually lets you decide on your own (preferred) definition... It doesn't prescribe that it should be regarded just as "correctness of speech".

Instead of people's personal definitions, what if we used, you know, the actual definition? (The one below is from Google, but there are many others, all broadly similar.)

Political Correctness: the avoidance, often considered as taken to extremes, of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against.

In its simplest form, "political correctness" simply means using language that does not cause offense. Some people simply call it politeness. In its most extreme form it is taken (generally by white conservatives) as a form of speech designed to advance a left-wing agenda and placate "whining pussies."

So my answer to the poll question depends upon your point of view. I try to use language that is not offensive. If that is "politically correct," so be it.

The right, by the way, has their own version of political correctness.

In your proposed definition, one small word (that I marked in yellow) changes in fact everything. In the OP, I suggested that people should choose between a more narrow definition (that you seem to prefer) and a broader one, that's bound to have the ingredients of a (progressive) ideology. The little yellow word suggests that the latter option might be in fact more appropriate.

I too tend to think of myself as being a "polite" person, but that doesn't make me "politically correct".

The right, by the way, has their own version of political correctness.

I think that list was written by a biased source, some of them didnt make any sense.

For example: "Centrists (e.g. Bill Clinton or Barack Obama) are/were called "socialist" for not being conservative enough."

I think we can agree that Barack is not a Centrist, and that Clinton only became a resemblance of a centrist in his second term only.

or

"Pro-business" or "business-friendly" to describe policies for lower taxes and fewer regulations.

Lower taxes and regulation on small businesses has been proven most effective

or

"Socialized medicine" to describe health care systems like Medicare.

That's what it is, and was first proposed as a single player manditory system by conservatives in the early 1990's; luckily the democrats shot it down... and then revived the idea under the new regime and acted like it was for it the whole time.

Calling it a Rational WIki should have been on the list of Orwellian things to name a wiki.

Generally, no I'm not. Maybe it has to do with where I live (Texas :D) but I just don't have the time, or care enough, to be so careful about what I say in fear that it might - god forbid - offend someone.

For example, I work at a grocery store. My boss asked me during my review a few months ago about what "groups" of customers we're supposed to ask to see if they'd like help out with their groceries. Elderly people, disabled people, pregnant women, etc. Well apparently it's no longer acceptable to call women pregnant. I'm supposed to refer to them as "expecting mothers". Really? Does that honestly offend anyone? And if it does, well, I don't really care. That's just my opinion though :P

That very much depends of how far left the person making that judgement is herself, wouldn't you say? E.g. from a Syriza (or a similar) perspective, Obama and Clinton might be regarded as conservatives.

Actually, the thing about the word "pregnant" is not political correctness, it's just old-fashioned being uptight. You couldn't say "pregnant" on television until the 1970s. I'd say that one's more of a Texas thing.
