Sure most of you have heard about the folks striking to get higher minimum wage. 

 

Just wanted to have some talks about it, seems like an interesting topic. 

 

My opinion however is, well, this is just another reason why money is so damn frustrating, and useless. I hate seeing folks who are not able to live happy lives because of their lack of money. I wish folks could realize that we're castrating ourselves. The entire human race would be extremely better off without having this paper greed in the way.

 

But, that's just like, my opinion man.

People are dumb to go on strike with such high unemployment. 

 

Also, money is not close to a good way of doing things, but thanks to human nature, there is not much that can be done about it

Not sure what its like with minimum wage across the pond over cost of living, but here a 40hr week job that's if you're lucky to get a fulltime job and it being only minimum wage is barely enough to pay general bills. So I can see nothing wrong in wanting to earn more to where you can actually live and not just exist.

Well, here it's 9 an hour full time I think. A lot of people who do have the regular jobs usually go apartment but some also have houses, so expenses vary by the person. 

 

Now for me, it'd be pretty tough. 8 Hours a day for 10 days (Two work weeks) at a rate of 9 an hour is like 720 and that's without taxes taken out so with taxes..could end up with 500? Maybe? That's a rough guess. Now I'd probably live in an apartment, and rent for a one bedroom usually ranges from 300-500 depending. So I have 1k a month, lose 500, the last 500 is for bills and whatever you can scrounge for food, then just hope you don't have any emergency expenses. If you do, you're right fucked. 

 

So yeah...in a sense it's the same here as there I guess. I also talk with with folks who have degrees even but still can't find a job so, even with a higher education, with the ability to get better pay, some people can't find a job to get such pay. 

 

Lots of people are also trying to be roomies, in order to survive and sometimes even then can't really make ends meet. It's pathetic, not on their part but on the governing powers.

Well what else can they do? Either way they're fucked. Although I do find it a bit stupid to ask for 15 an hour. Then prices will have to jack up, and folks will be back where they started. Also I think it'll have an effect on the inflation level, which would put everyone in deeper shit. So they're not getting that much of a raise...hopefully.

It varies by state. In PA where I live it's $7.25. In NJ where I work it's also $7.25, but the cost of living in NJ is WAY higher. Being single brings you home like $230/week here being single after taxes. That isn't enough to live on, for sure..

In theory yes, in reality no.

 

Employers will and do get away with paying minimum wages and I'm not talking about just non skilled jobs. ~global recession~ a great excuse to shaft people.

It's a problem to do with labor availability . If you have a shitload of people, the resource of labor is really easy to access, and if people really want to work, they'll work for less and less pay.

Those people are working their butt off and they sure deserve more than they are making right now. it takes allot of guts for anyone in their position to risk everything and step out of the job knowing that they will not get paid when they really need the money... they sure earned my respect and support for standing up for their rights. (not like Jorost's lady )

Minimum wage jobs typically offer minimal to society. I currently work for a movie theater and I get paid minimum wage, no holiday pay and we're open every holiday. Luckily I just got a full time position with Dynamic Fitness Management making $18/hour, which full time is 40 hours a week. So come January I should be rolling in the money and I am planning on buying a new(er) truck.

Well I'd think it's more than just fast food workers. Anyone who has a job that they can't live off of would probably be in on this as well. Seems to me like fast food workers are just the majority. Their were protests during black friday towards walmart. lol

In the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, it's revealed an alien species got rid of the minimum wage workers by sending them to another planet (in this case, Earth). The rest of the species then died of a disease contracted from dirty payphones.

 

The idea is comical, but hides a grain of truth. If all the minimum wage workers weren't around, who would collect garbage? Who would sell you stuff at walmart? Who would be the janitor? The world rides high on the toil of the less fortunate, and would cease working if they were not so unfortunate. And that gentlemen, is why I never, ever donate to charity.

When You raise the minimal wage the bar increases everything will be expensive. If we raise the wages the dollar (Menu,Store,etc) will cease to exist and will be replace with "Value".

 

 

I say the minimal wage should be fixated with the inflation or try to control inflation.
