It's time to calibrate Invicta's moral compass. Results are (obviously) anonymous.

There's a lot of these that I wouldn't necessarily consider right or wrong. There's some gray area things in here especially depending on the circumstances. Like abortion for example. I don't agree with it unless if the mother's health is in serious danger if she were to go through the pregnancy. And then there's others that while they could or should be considered morally right, they're not really advised. Like having a child outside of marriage. It's something that will happen, but you don't really want to aim for it happening.

Only one I voted wrong on was affair between a married couple.

It was odd. The wording "acceptable" really changes it. It's still a matter of personal interpretation, and IS' point is good (I would've made it if he didn't).

It's also funny, when I went through the first time, I quickly answered acceptable for most all of them, but gambling was one (along with the affairs one, and another one) that I actually listed as wrong. Then when I went back to review, I had to pause that I would on a whim declare human cloning morally acceptable, but draw a line in the sand at gambling.

So I'm the only one against the death penalty.

That's another one I changed because I'm a shaky shaky leaf.

Should we consider the question more straight forward, as a government sanctioned death as punishment for a crime, or could it apply to a more personal level? Not to mention, I don't believe the death penalty is moral, however I could make (and see) the argument, if it's part of a larger social contract.

The issue is, people are born, and are thrust into an existence-a life where it is what it is, without their consent whatsoever. But I'm waxxing more on the organization and contract of individual people with society as we form civilizations.

It's the same thing as cloning (or giving birth honestly). I can't say giving birth to a child, continuing life (it's a rather important thing) is morally wrong or unacceptable, but I'm actually someone who would argue the case that it's morally grey? to thrust life upon someone who had no choice in the manner, and who must now live with that.

But that's just life itself. It's kinda fucked up. But for life to exist, you have to accept that. Sins of the father. So everyone is born pure, and that has to be a good thing, but it's not so white and pure. I could not seriously argue, because I can not believe, that life is not precious and correct. But, why. It's just, what I know. It is existence. What else would we do.

But, that's why I said suicide is morally acceptable. I think it is wrong. Even morally wrong, but what does anyone owe anything? You simply exist. Good or bad, you're your own universe. You are the vessel, and the only person who must ultimately answer for what you are in this universe.

But to remove your own life. How can that be anything but wrong? But how can I judge anyone. Or force them to do anything. Literally anything.

The marriage question, I think may be my exception to "acceptable" because it's an explicit bond between two people (for as much as that can, or is, worth) that is broken. If it's a good marriage, you wouldn't get so far as to have an affair. Even cheating would come before that. But an affair, implies a period of time of distraught tension and multiple "cheatings".

Looking over it again, I was actually very inconsistent with how I interpreted each of the questions.

tl;dr

I believe in morals, but I'm willing to forgive anyone. We're all just humans fam. It's okay. Not cool, but you're cool fam. Just try to smile.

For reference, I fully expected the point IS made to come up, and ideally I'd like to provide a greater gradient in all my polls to allow for people to more precisely express their feelings. However, there was a specific reason I had for making this poll which will be the subject of a future post, and as such I wanted to make things as broad as possible. I fully agree that in a lot of the cases here, there are cases where I'd view things one way or another based on individual circumstances, but I'd ask you to answer in the broadest sense possible.

Abortion
Really nothing wrong with that.

Birth control
Cool with that.

Medical testing on animals
Sure.

Buying and wearing clothing made of animal fur
Sure.

Cloning animals
Sure. Can help animals going instinct.

Cloning humans
Sure. Nothing like in movies where a complete full grown copy comes out.

The death penalty
Nope. Bit hard to unkill someone when you kill the wrong person. And the eye for and eye bullshit nope nope nope.

Suicide
Not prefered and should be avoided but sure.

Doctor-assisted dying/suicide
Reall should be a thing. People live longer but old age isn't a pretty thing. And when you have a not curable illness where death is unavoidable you might as well get the choice to pick to go painless.

Sex between an unmarried man and woman
Sex can be fun, sex can be safe. When both sides consent why not.

Having a baby outside of marriage
Why not, marriage doesn't make you magically more or less commited parent.

Married men and women having an affair
Sure you can morally justify this, just don't expect it to not blow up in your face.

Gay or lesbian relations
RGSClae.jpg

Divorce
Better than the alternatives.

Gambling
Morally wrong.

Pornography
Oh no nude pplz.

Smoking marijuana for recreational purposes
Just a fucking plant.

I'm surprised the majority finds cloning to be moral. I personally think it's immoral based on the very concept of creating life based on your own likeness. Everyone deserves to be unique in this life, and not just a copy.

Say that to twins. Cloning does not provide perfect copies. It can even provide the child you for some reason longed for but weren't able to get with your partner.

That's not even what's immoral about it (in my opinion, or at least I thought in most peoples). It's that you're so explicitly creating life in an explicit manner. "Against the natural order".

I read the married one as being "open" rather than cheating. Former I find to be okay where both partners agree, while cheating, coercing, etc., would be wrong.

Death penalty is tricky and there is a lot of gray area, as with also all of those topics

So I assume you are favor of slaughtering one of each identical twin born? :P

People are more than their DNA. Just because two people are biologically identical does not mean one is a "copy" of the other.

Actually no.

Even without getting religious or high in the sky about it, it is undeniable that our knowledge about our makeup, and biology, is limited to be essentially be nothing compared to the reality of the vastness & complexity of how life is formed and functions.

Plainly; dicking around with stuff we largely don't understand only leads to unforeseen consequences that do have moral ramifications, because you purposefully mucked it up, instead of a dice roll fucking it up.

It's a gamble. And not a gamble with yourself, but directly involving another life; the creation of another life. I don't know what else could be more intimate.

Couldn't agree more, though I also understand Redezra's position, even if I don't agree with it.

The part I find most interesting so far is that there's a split on whether suicide is acceptable, but no such split when that suicide is doctor-assisted. I might expect those options to have different results, but I'm a bit confused about how someone can find suicide wrong, except when it's facilitated by a doctor. That seems contradictory to me. Anyone with that view comfortable explaining their rationale?
