Jon Stewart summed up Hillary Clinton perfectly when he called a smart, capable woman "lacking in the strength of her convictions." She lacks authenticity, in large part because no one knows what she actually believes. Supposedly, in private she comes across as warm and likable, but even if that's true (and I have serious doubts about that) it doesn't come across in public. It's remarkable that someone who has spent the last thirty years in the public eye is still so bad at it.
I have a bad feeling the Democrats are going to lose this one, folks. Much of the talk among the pundits nowadays is focused on the idea that the general election is different, and that Trump's unorthodox style will not have a broad-based appeal. I think that opinion is hilariously naive, especially considering that these are the same pundits who completely botched the Trump candidacy. I count myself among this group, having dismissed and poo-pooed Trump for months on these very forums. I was wrong. And the Democrats are wrong to underestimate him.
