I would've said Jazz also, but I don't listen to it often at all, but I do like the genre.

Everything has it's own sub-genre now. It's confusing. I had selected Pop, Rock, and Other as general things, but changed it to just one (Other).

I'm kinda eclectic.

 

My favourite musicians are Radiohead, The Police, Styx, The Jeff Healey Band (early stuff), Kate Bush, Sarah McLachlan, Current 93, Joy Division, Nine Inch Nails, Chris DeBurgh (up to and including Man on the Line), Concrete Blonde, Anthrax, Moist, Nirvana, The Tragically Hip, and Pink Floyd. Not in that order. Probably.

I do generally prefer musicians who write their own music compared to musicians who don't, which are essentially split into two groups: cover bands and nearly all classical music. Which is my problem with classical. I don't dislike it per se but I find that musicians who're doing their own stuff get into it more.

 

With that said, I love the Jeff Healey Band, and most of their best songs were written by other people. (Except See The Light.) But they're a serious exception.

I'm firmly in the pop-rock category.  Which is not to say that there is not some classical music I like (and even some country, jazz, bluegrass, etc.), but it's not the sort of thing I would normally choose to listen to on my own.  The majority of my music-listening is done while running, though, so classical doesn't really lend itself well.

 

What I'd really like to get is a waterproof case/headphones for my iPod so I could listen while swimming.

What Jorost said. Music while doing many things makes it seem like less of "wasted time" and I know for me, helps me concentrate.

Important to pick something that fits the activity though. When I'm doing math let's say, I can't really listen to distracting stuff, but lyrics are not off the table. Exercising though, or folding clothes are made a lot more fun with music.

And it's not music, but I used to listen to podcasts (or internet radio) while playing minecraft, or sometimes while walking. I'm paying attention to the conversation, and doing something that's not physically or mentally taxing.
