Just when I thought the human race could not possibly be more shallow, we have descended to new depths of triviality. Apparently an argument over whether a dress is white with gold trim or blue with black trim has been burning up the interwebz, and it's been getting ugly. (It's blue with black trim, if anyone cares.) 

 

Seriously? I am hard pressed to think of something I care about less.

btw, I saw blue and black, my wife saw gold and white.

The first picture I saw looked gold and white, but it was a bad exposure. In a clearer exposure it looked blue and black. I have no idea who was even wearing it.

 

We've gotten into some heated arguments here over some pretty stupid stuff, but never anything THIS stupid. I only know about this because it became such a big deal, but I imagine that if I had been there at the beginning the conversation would have gone something like this:

 

ANNOYING PERSON SOON TO BE MY EX-FRIEND: Hey, look at this dress! What color do you think that is?

 

ME: Uh, I don't know, white with gold trim, I guess.

 

PERSON: No! It's blue with black trim! Can you believe it?!?

 

ME: I hate you.

It all depends on the lighting.

Saving a image first I have to view the image. When I saw this thread I say Nope and I am not viewing that image. Seriously does people got more important things to do then arguing what color is a dress is.

However, lighting could change the color, and thus what's on the computer may not be what's in real life!

This was complicated and annoying and we eventually found the scientific explanation wrt brains disregarding part of the color balance when in doubt, and although I know this is a blue black dress I can't help but see it gold white. FML.

The original Tumblr poster (and the dress) were on Ellen today, which I watch every Tuesday with my grandmother (jealous?). It's blue and black without question. I'm still not sure what all the controversy was about, it was just a bad picture. The dress is satin-like and shiny, which probably accounts for the optical illusion in the overexposed picture.

 

Weird how stupid stuff like this gets people so riled up. It makes it easy to see why politics gets so heated.
