I do not play the guitar but would like to learn. I have found one near me for sale and looks like a decent deal but don't know a lot about them. It is a Godin SD electric with soft case for $180. looks to be in pristine condition as its hardly been used.Trying to get more info on it but wondering if anyone has any thoughts or comments on it? It seems like a decent guitar for starters.

I am a guitarist so I can probably help you out. Choosing a guitar depends on what you want to play specifically. If you mainly want to focus on playing chords and songs I suggest a decent acoustic. But on an acoustic you can't shred and have wicked distortion. For that you need an electric. I'll do more research on the specific guitar you mentioned later.

I tried to learn guitar a couple years ago. Unfortunately I lost my job right after I started the lessons, so really couldn't justify the expense. But I don't think guitar was for me anyway. My fingers didn't want to move in the way they needed to in order to make the guitar sing. Plus it hurt, and I wasn't really psyched about getting calluses. Next time: piano.

What Jor says is true, you need serious calluses in order to play guitar.

Long fingers help too. This is probably why guitarists get more dates than drummers.
