I'm not so much scared of the fine as I am that I'd crash and die, because I come close enough to that as it is on a daily basis Also I don't actually drink that much

Drinking and driving is horrible.

 

Negligence is no excuse for someone getting hurt, it's actually one of the worst ones.

I'm surprised either by how neet this alliance is or more probably how many people don't want to answer the truth.... 1 DUI is less than expected.

Because I was too wasted when I made yesterday's potd. I didn't even remember I made this topic.

Chances are, if i'm getting hammered, I'm driving home.

 

My record is perfect thus far, but I'm going to have to stop, because I can just feel that DUI creeping up on me. To be honest, I think it's kinda ridiculous, you get so paranoid about the cops catching you and busting you for DUI when you're barely buzzed that you drive paranoid and end up wrecking.

 

It's probably poor taste to complain about MADD, but making other people's lives hell isn't going to bring back your dead daughter, and DUI laws are just getting more fucking ridiculous every year. I have a friend who got one about two years ago and I think he paid in the range of 6-7k in lawyer fees, but he fought and won, but shit, it's expensive even when you don't win, even when you don't have a great lawyer, even when you don't fight it.

Is it really that inconvenient to ask someone to drive you home? If you plan on getting messed up, why would you risk driving? fuck the money and shit, what about the lives you risk? Your own and other people's.

Also, I gotta ask, have you ever DUI with other passengers in your car?

My grandpa stopped drinking several years ago after partying really hard one night. He woke up back at his house and all his friends told him that he drove home. He couldn't even remember doing it, he was so drunk. He hasn't touched it since.

I honestly wouldn't care about people driving drunk if the only thing they were risking was themselves and their property. But when people do drive drunk it puts everyone else on the road at risk, pedestrians, and anyone's property that might get crashed into. And that is not ok, thus I think DUI punishments should be stricter yet. If people can justify driving drunk, the consequences aren't high enough.

Think about in these terms: would you go get drunk and then grab a rifle and head off into the woods to hunt things?

 

If the answer is no, then you probably shouldn't be controlling a machine that is actually better at killing people.

Around here, most drunk driving is either done in desolate areas of the country or in the middle of the night when the only other people on the road are either a ) cops or b ) also drunk.

 

So killing somebody is not something that would be on my mind in that situation.

Yeah, drunk driving should result in removal of your license until you can legally prove you aren't a fucking irresponsible idiot again. The number of deaths caused by cars is justification enough.

Or C. People who had to close at work and are just trying to get home so they can go to sleep. Us in the food industry sometimes work to 2 am. Last week our dishwasher broke and they were in there till 4:30am. Or say people in Security who work all night and go home at like 7am or something. Point is, it's not just cops and drunks on the road at that point. There's plenty others that you are still putting at risk. Oh, and about country, it doesn't get much more country than the banjo playin hillbillies we got out here.

Also, you are implying cops are exempt from the risk you put on others? a few months ago on my local news, there was a story of a cop that was killed on the interstate cause a driver was driving on the wrong side of the interstate with no lights on and hit the cop head on. The cop died on impact. The driver was drunk.

Aside the cops and the random people Jon wrote about, since when is it okay to kill drunk people? I mean a father of 4 walks home from a bar after having some drinks. He didn't take the car cause he didn't want to take a risk. Then comes memoryproblems, runs him over and yells "You drunk bitch" ???
