Ehh...

I don't think most people think of it in terms of the day itself. It's not even a holiday.

People think of it as "that day when I expect to see the person I love" which for most people is something to look forward to.

Men think of it as "that day when I can pay for sex without it being illegal".

But really, I think Jor's mostly spot-on, although perhaps we're all overlooking cultural differences. How Valentine's Day is celebrated does actually differ between cultures more significantly than a lot of people may think.

Don't most people see the ones they love every day?  Unless you're very early in the relationship, there's nothing special about Valentine's Day in terms of seeing your significant other.  If you are married to or live with them, then you see them every day.  If you are at the stage where you don't quite live together but they're over at least a couple nights a week, then you're already seeing a lot of each other.  And even if you're only at the stage where a date is assumed on Saturday night, it would be just as assumed that you'd see them on VD.

VD.  Heh.  That's a funny coincidence.

But yeah, I think Sia-chan (seriously, pick a name already!) is right.  I think most men see Valentine's Day as an opportunity to score some primo sex for very little effort.  Some flowers, a box of candy, little jewelry, nice dinner out, whatever.  Sure, it's expensive, but it's a special occasion.  :)

Eh, I don't think old married couples usually care that much about Valentine's Day. It's more of a big deal when you're young and early in the relationship; you met someone at a party at Christmastime, now it's been a few weeks and there's a day that you know that nobody's going to say "Oh you should just hang with the guys today."

But yes also, people like sex, this is not news. B)
